metering cubicles or panels are indoor versions of the combined current transformer and voltage transformer (ct-vt) units. These metering cubicles or metering panels as they are popularly called are dry type units and are ideally used for indoor installations although they may be used outdoors subject to certain conditions. metering cubicles consist of a combined structure which is manufactured using high grade steel which could either be hot-rolled mild steel or cold rolled mild steel depending on client requirements. The surface of the cubicle can either be painted or powder coated depending on client specifications. Surface painting can be of various types and are dependent again on client instructions and requirements. the unit is divided into separate compartments to house the transformers and energy meter inside. It is fitted with dry type epoxy resin cast current transformers and voltage transformers and as such are dry type units. High voltage metering cubicles can be used for both 3 phase 3 wire metering system or for 3 phase 4 wire metering system. In most circumstances they are used for electrical systems of medium voltages upto 33 kv. in certain high electric systems, it is not possible to install a combined ct-pt metering unit outdoors. It could be due to multiple factors like electricity theft, excess rainfall, moisture or humidity, lack of space amongst various others. In such a situation, a high voltage metering cubicle is preferred. high voltage metering cubicles are dry type units and are the preferred transformer units for indoor installations. They may be used for outdoor applications also, if required. The outer shell or metering panel box is constructed using hot-rolled or cold rolled steel. The fabricated structure is then cleaned and painted or powder coated as per client requirements. the structure of the high voltage metering panel are partitioned into different sections. These sections are fitted with epoxy dry type current transformers, voltage transformers and an energy meter separately so that each item is segregated from each other inside the cubicle. High voltage metering cubicles are ideal for indoor use where metering is done in 3 phase 4 wire system employing 3 current transformers and 3 voltage transformers. In most circumstances they are used for electrical systems of 11 kv system voltage. macroplast manufactures high voltage metering cubicles up to 33kv. Transformer oil is one of the very important component in oil immersed transformers. The life expectancy and satisfactory operation of transformers are mainly depend on the oil in which is immersed. The transformer oil performs two very important functions. 1. It creates an acceptable level of insulation in combination with the insulating materials used in the conductors and coils. 2. It also acts as a coolant to extract heat from the core and the windings.The oil used in transformers is hydrocarbon mineral oil. It is mainly composed of four generic classes of organic compounds, aromatics, paraffins, napthenes and olefines. Transformer oil gives a better insulation when aromatics, paraffins, napthenes and olefines are present at the right proportion. For better insulation Transformer oil is desired to have more of saturated paraffins and less of aromatics, napthenes and olefines. For more stability, more aromatics and napthenes are necessary. To get both insulating property and stability at the same time, there must be an optimum mix of four organic components. This can be obtained by careful refining of crude oil. Vegetable and animal oils form fatty acids and attack the fibrous insulating materials and hence cannot be used in transformers.
