The inherent harmful factors for human consumption like free fatty acids (FFA), gums, sediments, odoriferous and colouring materials present in crude oils are removed completely to make the oil edible. MECTECH takes special care in all the stages and after undergoing the process of neutralisation, bleaching and deodorisation, the oil is safe and fit for human intake. Degumming / Neutralization Degumming is a process of removing phospholipids to improve its physical stability and facilitate further refining. Presence of phospholipids leads the oil colour rise in high temperature and they can also serve as precursors of oil off -flavor. Free fatty acids, pigments and other impurities are also partially removed by degumming. Mectech follows different types of degumming processes. These processes are (ie water degumming acid degumming Exzymatic degumming) being selected based on methods of processing, chemicals used and the content of phosphatides in the crude vegetable oil.

Fatty Acids Distillation plant is broadly divided into three main section. vis. de-gasification, pre-cut system and main distillation system. These main process section are supported for optimum cooling based on thermostatised water system. Crude fatty acids from battery limit is filtered, pre-heated and admitted to the de-gasifying unit operating under vacuum, where it is dried and de-gasified. Crude fatty acids, from de-gasifier is heated in thermic fluid exchanger and fed to the pre-cut column. The pre-cut column operates under vacuum and is composed of various section; starting from bottom, the main sections are vaporization section, Two sections of distillation packing bed, pump-around section and scrubbing section. From bottom of the column, the product is sent to Fatty Acid Distillation column. The main distillation column operates under vacuum and is composed of various section; starting from bottom the main sections are vaporization section, stripping section, one set of washing section, one pump-around section and one scrubbing section

1. Continuous Deodorizer for High FFA Oils Vegetable oil is heated to the desired temperature in a multi-compartment Vacuum Heater with counter current flow of vegetable oil and heating medium i.e. High Pressure Steam or Thermic Fluid. Pre-heating is gradual and methodical so that all of the oil comes in contact with this sparging system at the free surface exposed to vacuum. Packed Column with packings of large surface area is provided on the top of Deodorizer. This ensures reduction of Free Fatty Acids to the desired level. An additional top heating tray is provided below the Packed Column to compensate for the unavoidable loss of heat due to evaporation of Fatty Acids. Perfect deodorization is accomplished by providing large free surfacing area contact between oil and stripping steam at an absolute pressure of 2 m bar. This results in furnishing oil surface layer of numerous bubbles having 5 - 10 mm diameter. These small bubbles burst and they discharge the water vapour saturated with distilled fatty acids and the odoriferous compounds. These ascending vapours are immediately and freely taken out into lateral ducts through the large section opening provided on top of each stripping tray. This ensures virtually no pressure drop from top to the bottom tray.
