As we came across the performance of standard nitrile rubber rolls for de-husking of paddy in rice mills, with our in depth knowledge of polymer composites, we soon realized that this cannot be the ultimate material for de-husking, considering the three parameters of life in tonnage, de-husking efficiency and the most important of all the broken percentage. Hence few years back we started our laboratory experiments with different formulations, though we shall always remain in the process of improvisation in terms of all the three parameters, as of now we are in a position to offer to the industry, rolls made of elastomeric polymer composites which can give multiple times life while maintaining optimum de-husking efficiency through out its life. Royal provides a complete range of O rings and back-up rings. O rings are available in 70 and 90 shore A hardness in NBR, whereas in 80 shore A hardness in Fluorocabon. Apart from these standard compounds Royal has the capacity to produce O rings in NBR, Fluorocabon, EPDM, Silicon etc as per design requirement. PTFE Back-up rings are used with a primary seal such as an o-ring in both dynamic and static applications to prevent extrusion of the oring when it is subject to high pressures. Two back-up rings should be used with one on each side of the primary seal

SealsLike the Hydraulic system, Pneumatic systems require a set of special seal designs for its proper functioning. As the working fluid air or other gases are poor lubricant, care must be taken while designing the seals. In a pneumatic cylinder the major functions of pneumatic seals are to restrict the escape of air or the entrance of foreign materials in the system, maintain alignment of the rod and the piston and in certain cases enable the system to work maintenance free for long periods of time even without lubrication. In comparison to Hydraulic cylinders, Pneumatic cylinders typically demand higher operating speeds (upto 4 ms), lower friction pneumatic seals and operate at much lower pressures (max 16 bars). Thus the friction created by the seals becomes a very important parameter while designing the seals. Pneumatic Seals may be used for rotary and reciprocating motion. Common pneumatic seals include: rod seals, piston seals, symmetrical seals, V-Rings, wipers, wear rings, static seals, back-up rings, o-rings etc. Pneumatic seals can be single or double acting. Single acting pneumatic seals are used for one axial direction only. Double acting pneumatic seals are used in both directions for a reciprocating motion. Pneumatic seals can be made of a variety of materials: Polyurethane, Nitrile, Viton, Silicone, EPDM and PTFE.

Nitrile Rubber is the most widely used elastomer in the seal Industry. Excellent resistance to petroleum products and its ability to be compounded for service over a wide temperature range has made Nitrile a very popular material. Nitrile is a copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile.Specific properties can be achieved by varying the proportions of these individual polymers.Acrylonitrile content in Nitrile can be varied from 18% to 50% by weight. Nominal designations are ‘low’ (18 to 24%), ‘medium’ (28% to 33%) and ‘high’ (38% and higher) Nitrile. An increase in acrylonitrile content increases heat as well as chemical resistance to petroleum base oils and fuels but decreases low temperature flexibility. Nitrite provides excellent compression set, tear resistance, cold flow and abrasion resistance. The major limiting properties of nitrile are its poor ozone and weather resistance and moderate heat resistance. Hydrogenated – NBR are used in applications requiring high wear and chemical resistance.

A hydraulic wiper or scraper prevents contamination of the hydraulic medium that could damage wear rings, rod seals and other components. Breakdowns and premature seal failure in a hydraulic system is primarily caused by contamination. As the piston rods retract into the system, they carry dust and other particles on its surface. The wiping lip of the scrapes keeps these particles outside the system preventing any destruction of the seal and damage to the moving surface.Relative to its importance, the wiper seal is the most underrated seal in the hydraulic cylinder. The surrounding environment and service conditions must be taken into special consideration while choosing the wiper seal design. Various seal profiles of wipers include both single and double lip seals are available. The housing is kept open or closed depending upon both seal profiles and design specification. ROYAL has developed special seal design to operate in the harshest of environment. Special care should be taken while installing the wipers.
