Ikat fabric is a dyeing technique used to create a distinct style of textile patterns. Ikat is done by resist dyeing sections of the yarns prior to weaving the fabric. In ikat the resist is formed by binding individual yarns or bundles of yarns with a tight wrapping applied in the desired pattern. Pochampally, Ikat & Patola, essentially refer to the same technique of weaving, which is a cross-over between printing and weaving. Here, the design motifs are first printed, or resist-dyed, onto the warp or the weft threads, or both, and then diligently woven into a fabric or saree. Pochampally sari or Pochampalli ikat is a saree made in Bhoodan Pochampally, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, Telangana State, India. They have traditional geometric patterns in "Paagadu Bandhu" (Ikat) style of dyeing. The intricate geometric designs find their way into sarees and dress materials. You can find Ikat fabric used to create everything from clothing to accessories. Another use of Ikat patterns is in furniture and pillow design. Even bedding, pillowcases, and bed sheets can feature Ikat patterns. It's used widely, and it's loved wherever it's used. Handloom Ikkat is very popular among the women of India and is considered a bridge between vintage and modern styling. As Ikat fabric is extremely breathable and comfortable for all seasons, so go ahead and design these stunning Ikat kurtis

Ikat created by dyeing the warp are simpler to make than either weft ikat or double ikat. First the material, be it cotton, silk, l or other, is tied into bundles. The bundles may be covered with wax (as per batik, where however the resist is applied to whole cloth, not to separate threads), wrapped tightly with thread or some other dye-resistant material- to prevent unwanted dye permeation. The resist dye procedure is repeated depending on the colorations desired of the warp bundle. Multiple colorations is common requiring multiple tying and retying. The newly dyed and thoroughly washed bundles are tied as the warped (longitudinal strings) onto the loom. The patterns are usually decided by the weaver as the warp threads are tied. Warp threads are adjusted for the desired alignment for precise motifs.

Kalamkari is an ancient style of block-printing and hand painting with a tamarind pen on cotton fabric using natural sources (red from the madder root, yellow from the pomegranate and the black colour from the myrobalam fruit) and vegetable dyes. Mordants like alum are used for dyeing to bind the dye to the fibres of fabric. The name Kalamkari itself justifies the beauty of its art. Kalamkari is derived from a Persian word where ‘kalam‘ means pen and ‘kari‘ refers to skilled art. The classical trained artisans draw beautiful motif, floral, cultural and traditional forms in their depictions. The entire epics are depicted via many stories and the vertical panels along the length of the fabric. The whole process takes one month and involves eighteen stages. Kalamkari art preffered for any dress and furnishing. The beauty of kalamkari is impeccable when compared to other modern fabric arts. Characteristic imperfections and colours may fade or bleed since kalamkari is the traditional handmade process.
