True Vacc Water-ring vacuum pumps are rotary pumps using water as sealing fluid.  It basically consists of cylindrical casing with control disc on either sides.  Inside this consists an eccentrically located balanced impeller with curved blades.  The liquid introduced is set into rotary motion by impeller forming a water ring concentric with casing.  Cells formed between the blades and the ring vary in volume from maximum to minimum with each revolution.  The suction medium enters this space through the opening in control disc & are then compressed out through the exhaust pipe alongwith the sealing liquid. SHENOVAC Water-ring Vacuum Compressor (Liquid Ring) Pumps are of rotating positive displacement Pumps. These pumps are not only used as Vacuum Pumps but can also be used as Compressors too. The Pump compresses gas by rotating a vaned impeller which is mounted eccentrically to the axis of the Pump casing. Sealing water forms a moving cylindrical ring against the inside of the casing. This creates a series of seals between the impeller vanes and liquid ring. Gases drawn into the Pump through an inlet port get trapped in the impeller cells, are compressed and goes to the second stage where they get compressed again, due to reduced volume caused by the rotation of the impeller, are discharged through exhaust port. Further, the process will allow the pump to automatically invent the quantity of liquid that will be discharged through exhaust port thereby removing the heat of compression from the Pump.The Main Casing and almost all the components of the Pumps are made from Cast Iron except the shaft and impeller. As the impeller rotate the liquid is thrown by centrifugal force to from a liquid ring which is concentric with the periphery of the casing. Due to the eccentric position of the impeller relative to the casing and liquid ring, the spaces between the impeller vanes fill with liquid during rotation and any air or gas trapped in the impeller space or cell is compressed and discharged from the casing through the outlet part leaving the cell available to receive air or gas as it is presented to the inlet port of the casing. In addition to being the compressing medium the liquid-ring performs three other important functions. It absorbs the heat generated by compression and friction. It absorbs any liquid slugs or vapor entering with the gas stream. It will also absorb and wash out contaminants entrained in the gas.
