Which Lamkhaga trek? The trek leading up to the Harsil in Gangotri Valley is one of the most popular treks in Chitkul. It is known by various names, which can be a little confusing. The itinerary covers the famous Har-ki-Dun valley and we witness the beautiful glacial lakes of Morinda Taal and Zhukia Glacier. The route for this trek passes through a glacier, narrow ridges, vertical show slopes, meadows, and boulders. Overall a very adventurous experience not to mention the unforgettable views of the mountains.

The trek is also known as Chitkul to Gangotri trek or Harsil to Chitkul trek. It trek can be done from either side. The beautiful route takes you through some of the most remote areas of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, like the Jalandhari valley that is covered with flowers post monsoon. Harsil is famous for Wilson’s Cottage built in 1864. Gangotri is a short drive from Harsil, while Chitkul is the last village in the Baspa Valley. Though the difficulty is a relative term, the Lamkhaga pass trek is considered the most difficult in Kinnaur-Garhwal Himalayas.

Raacho Kanda offered amazing views of and Raacho group of peaks along Indo-Tibetian border. Charang (altitude 3400 mtrs )offers a delightful blend of spiritualism and adventure with its beautiful ancient monastery Rangrik Tungma and many chortens.

The other two passes on the same mountain range connecting Sangla valley to Rohru & Dodra- Kwar in Pabbar valley are Gunas pass & Rupin pass. Chandernahan lake (the source of Pabbar river) is located about an hour trek from Litham Thach. Brua/Buran village is the start point of the trek from Sangla valley in Kinnaur & Janglik village is the endpoint. Jaglikh is a beautiful village located in Pabbar valley of Shimla district.

Auden’s Col is a pass connecting Rudugaira valley & Bhilangna valley. Itinerary & route of Auden’s Col Trek includes 3 passes and infamous Khatling glacier. The Col (saddle-shaped pass joining two surrounding peaks) connects Jogin I (6465 m) and Gangotri III peak(6580 m). The pass is situated be at an altitude of around 5400m above sea level. On the opposite side, it also connects two glaciers. The first one is the Khatling Glacier, the other one is the Jogin I Glacier. Auden’s Col trek begins from Gangotri and one can follow Auden’s Col and Khatling Glacier route to reach Kedarnath. The name of the Auden’s col comes from J B Auden who went crossed it for the first time in 1939-40.

The official yatra to the holy Kinnaur Kailash peak commences in July month, but Parikrama is doable in May and June month as well. The route to the summit is steeply inclined and it gets almost perpendicular just after Tangling village. It takes around 8-9 hours from Tangling village to reach the next pit stop i.e Maling Khata meadows. Following the June 2019 accident that happended near Parvati Kund, the Kinnaur district administration under Himachal Pradesh Miscellaneous Adventure Activities Rules, 2017 has mandated the permit for every trekker wishing to register for the Kinner Kailash Yatra.

It is located almost 200 km away from Leh Town. One has to book own Transport to reach this village. It is among the highest village in the world. According to history, it was the Central Asian Trade route until 1947. Korzok is headquarters of Rupshu Valley and many Beautiful Trans Himalayan Treks starts or ends here; Parang La is one of them too. The diverse terrain includes long glacier walks of Parang glacier (source of Pare Chu river ), river crossing, negotiating crevasses, lake, and beautiful mountain meadows. The trail follows the broad valley of the Pare Chu till its confluence with the Phirtse Phu at Norbu Sumdo. Best time to do Parang- La is from June to September. Early June is good for experiencing long snow cover and snowscapes. In August – September month there is a beautiful contrast of green mountain meadows against the desert brown landscape and snow-capped mountain peaks.

This route connects the Kinnaur valley to the Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh. It is one of the most less traversed routes in the region. The pass lies at the head of the Lippa valley near Kalpa. It descends to the Pin valley in Spiti. It is one of the most beautiful treks and is one of the most undiscovered trails. This is definitely one of the roads less traveled.

Bhabha pass is located between the Kinnaur and Pin valley of Spiti region of Himachal Pradesh. From the beginning of the trek to the end, one experiences wildly vivid landscapes, people, languages, and religions. Pin valley,Spiti to Bhaba valley crossover Bhabha Pass Trek can be done in either direction, from the Mud village of Spiti and from Kafnu village of Bhabha valley, Kinnaur. Normally it takes 4-5 days to reach the Mud village under normal weather conditions. Bhabha Pass connects two contrasting valleys of Kinnaur and Spiti. Lush green meadows of Bhabha valley transforms into barren moonscapes of the Pin valley of Spiti region.

Day 1: Shimla to Sarahan ( Distance 164 Kms). Drive from Shimla to Narkanda( alt. 2800 meter). Visit Hatu temple and relish mountain ranges from there. Drive to Sarahan. Overnight at the hotel. Day 2: Sarahan to Chitkul Sarahan is a beautiful village renowned for historical Bhimakali temple, which is about 1500 years old. We can also enjoy the best view of the Srikhand Mahadev peak (5150 meters). Visit the bird sanctuary of a near-extinct bird species. Drive to Chitkul and stay there in a hotel. Distance is about 110 Kms). Night stay at hotel in Kalpa. Day 3: Chitkul to Kalpa Chitkul (3400-meter altitude ) is the last village on Indo-Tibetan border nestled in the beautiful Baspa valley. Visit Chitkul Mata temple and drive to Sangla. Walk to Bering Nag temple at Sangla. Visit the ancient fort at Kamru village. Drive to Kalpa. ( around 65 Km drive ). Overnight stay at a hotel in Kalpa. Day 4 : Kalpa to Charang
