The colour ranges from creamy white in the sapwood to a dark chocolate colour in the heartwood. When kiln-dried, walnut wood tends toward a dull brown colour. Because of its colour, hardness and grain, it is a prized furniture and carving wood. Veneer sliced from walnut burl is one of the most valuable and highly prized all over the world.

This wood species is seen as shade trees in Tea Estates all over India and is cut when shade is to be reduced. Purely a plantation origin wood species and is not from tropical forest origin. It has a cloth like appearance with numerous grain designs, which makes it attractive. Both dark and light colors are suitable for printing. The image to be printed is photographically transferred to a very fine fabric (the screen) such that the non-printing areas are blocked off and the fabric serves as a stencil. The ink is wiped across the screen to pass through the unblocked pores and reach the screen printing on wood. Screen printing on wood gives high quality results. The naturally maintained surface of the screen printing on wood absorbs ink with ease. Screen printing on wood is also ideal on wood sheets with higher thicknesses. Full bleed printing on wood is not suggested to maintain the aesthetics of the screen printing wood. Cut colors in 1 or 2 colors print looks excellent on wood that has its own wood designs.

This wood species is grown in most of the back yards in Kerala State of India as it is a fast growing one. Pepper stumps are grown on this by local farmers and it a hardly any canopy. Basically a yellowish white clear grained species with smooth surface. Most colours go well for printing. Local name – Matti Botanical name – Ailanthus Triphysa

Laser engraving on wood is the process of using a laser beam for etching, marking or cutting the surface of the laser engraving wood. Wood generally burns darker or lighter depending on the resin or sap content. This can be achieved also by adjusting power and focus of the laser head. We make laser engraving wood sheets with thickness starting from 0.25mm 250 microns 0.01” to 1.6mm 1600 microns 0.06” in size A3 or similar. Made from micro processed wood veneer sheets pasted together to achieve thin plywood sheets for laser engraving and cutting requirements. Our sheets engrave well as there are no joins or plastic material within. Model makers and engravers find our sheet interesting to use.
