Loading Frame The load frame is steel welded. It is designed to withstand a few million times of full cycles of loading without any sign of distortion or fatigue. These frames are light in weight. The base carries a fine finished hydraulic ram and the lower platen. The top plate has a spherical seating to take care of any irregularity of the specimen surface or slight misplacement of the specimen from the central axis. The front cover is made of an expanded sheet, which is provided as protection to the operator while at the same time giving an unobstructive view of the specimen under test. An additional frame is provided by the side of the main unit for testing of samples in flexure as per EN 196 is fixed on the left-hand side of the main loading unit Power Pack Powerpack is placed by the side of the loading unit and is connected to the main unit through quick-couplings. It is powered by a single-phase motor to load the unit to its maximum capacity. It has provision for fast lift and also for the selection between the compression unit or flexure unit. Compression Testing Machine (Electrically Operated) - Four Pillar type It is an electric cum hand operated for compression tests on concrete specimens up to 20cm dia and 30 cm in height. The machine meets the essential requirements of various Indian, British & American standards for compression tests. Loading Unit :The hydraulic jack of 2000 kN capacity is fixed to base. The upper plate has got a self aligning action and is attached to a screw which passes through the cross head and can be raised for lowered for initial clearance adjustment. The lower plate rests on the jack ram and is positioned with the help of a centering pin. Loading is accomplished by the upward movement of the lower plate. Pumping Unit :The motorized pumping unit which is housed in an elegant console is of double plunger type and is driven by 3 phase 440 volts 50 cycles electric motor. The pumping unit is separate unit connected to the jack by means of a steel connecting tube. A junction box is suitably fixed to connect the motor to the mains through a push button starter. The pumping unit is fitted with gauges. A maximum pointer is provided to facilitate taking of the reading after failure of the specimen. The pressure gauges are fixed on the pumping unit at an angle for easy readability. The machine is fitted with a hand wheel control which enables the rate of application of load to be varied. The machine is also equipped with facilities for hand pumping in case of power failure. The electric pumping unit is fixed with a micro-switch off the motor automatically as the load on the machine approaches the rated capacity. Relays are also incorporated in the pumping unit so that in the case of break-down of power supply, the motor will stop and would not-re-start unless starting switch is operated.

Application : The CTE 4C type compression testing machine is designed for conducting specifically compression test on concrete blocks, stones and many other similar materials. Principle of Operation : Operation of the machine is by hydraulic transmission of load from the test specimen through pressure transducer to a separately house load indicator. The system is ideal since it replaces transmission of load through levers and knife edges, which are prone to wear and damage due to shock on rupture of test pieces. Load is applied by a hydrostatically lubricated ram. Main cylinder pressure is transmitted to a pressure transducer house in the control panel. The transducer gives the signal to the electronic display unit, corresponding to the load exerted by the main ram. Simultaneously the encoder fitted on the straining unit gives the mechanical displacement to the electronic display unit. Both signals are processed by the microprocessor and load displacement on digital read-outs simultaneously. Machine consist of : I) Loading Unit : Fabricated base clamped to four columns by nuts. And the piston slides in the cylinder a cover is provided on the piston to protect it from dust. Thick top plate is clamped on the upper side of the four columns by nuts. Upper Compression plate with swiveling is attached to top plate and lower compression plate is kept on the piston. Three packing stools are provided to keep the required vertical clearance so the machine is of fixed crosshead type. II ) Control Panel : The control panel consists of a power pack complete with drive motor, oil tank, control valves and electronic display unit. Machine consists of : Straining Unit This consists of a hydraulmic cylinder and a table coupled with the ram of hydraulic cylinder, mounted on robust base. The cylinder and the ram are individually lapped to eliminate friction. The cross-head is connected to two screwed columns and is driven by a motor, for rapid adjustment of test height. An elongation scale with a minimum graduation of 1.0 mm, is provided to measure the deformation of the specimen. Compression, transverse, bending, shear and hardness tests are conducted between the lower cross head and the table. Control Panel : The control Panel consists of a power pack complete with drive motor and an oil tank, control valves a pendulum dynamometer a load indicator system and an autographic recorder. Power Pack : The power pack generates the maximum pressure of 200 kgf/cm2 the hydraulic pump provides continuously non-pulsating oil flow. Hence the load application is very smooth. Hydraulic Controls : Hand operated wheels are used to control the flow to and from the hydraulic cylinder. The regulation of oil flow is infinitely variable incorporated in the hydraulic system is a regulating valve which maintains a practically constant rate of table movement. Load Indicator System : This system consists of a large dial and a pointer. A dummy pointer is provided to register the maximum load reached during the test. Different measuring ranges can be selected by operating the range selection knob. An overload trip switch is incorporated which automatically cuts out the pump motor when the load range in use is exceeded. Pendulum Dynamometer : This unit permits selection of favorable hydraulic ratios producing relatively small frictional forces. Pressurised oil in the loading cylinder pushes up the measuring piston proportionately and actuates the special dynamometer system. The piston is constantly rotated to eliminate friction. The dynamometer system is also provided with an integral damper and ensures high reliability of operation. The load transmitted to the dynamometer is transferred through a pendulum to the load indicator. Autographic Continuous Roll Load-Elongation Recorder : This unit is of the pen and drum type and is supplied as standard. The horizontal motion of the pen produces the load ordinate of the diagram and the drum rotation produces the extension ordinates in the ration of either 1:5 or 1:10.A continuous roll of graph paper is stored inside the drum and is easily replaced. Accuracy & Calibration : AII FIE Compression Testing Machines are closely controlled for sensitivity, accuracy and calibration during every stage of manufacture. Every machine is then calibrated over each of its measuring ranges in accordance with the procedure laid down in BS : 1610 : Part 1 :1992 and IS 1828.
