CPC received from our own plant or ECA received from overseas suppliers is screened to different fractions and stored in different hoppers. The various fractions are then weighed using electronic batching system and taken in a bin. The proportions of the fractions are fixed according to the desired properties of electrode paste. The total aggregate is then preheated in sigma type mixer upto 180oC and then liquid coal tar pitch is added at 200oC and mixed. Depending on desired plasticity of Electrode paste, quantity of liquid Coal Tar is added. Coal Tar pitch is used as a binder. The electrode carbon paste can be availed at market leading prices from us. processed from a mix of a specific amount of calcined petroleum coke (cpc) and / or electrically calcined anthracite coal (eca), saturated with selective coal tar pitch binder at a definite temperature. used in submerged arc furnaces for production of various ferro alloys and calcium carbide manufacturing process the first step in the manufacture of electrode carbon paste is screening the calcined petroleum coke (cpc) and / or (eca) to different fractions and pulverizing and storing it separately. Following this, pre-determined quantities of different fractions are weighed and transferred to a sigma mixer which is heated to about 150ºc by thermic fluid. The required quantity of binder is also weighed separately and added to the mixer. the mixing is continued for a pre-determined period known as the mixing cycle. At the end of the mixing cycle, the mixed material is dumped on the mould box and cast into blocks for shipment. quality specification at the customer's end the paste is fed in the upper part of the electrode. As the paste moves downwards in the electrode it softens and melts forming the shape of the electrode casing. Flowability of carbon paste is essential for proper operation of the electrode. It is important that the paste flows at a reasonable temperature and fills the casing of the electrode, maintaining a consistent mixture of components. The paste then gets baked to a solid mass as it moves down and is capable of passing the required current to the furnace charge. The plasticity of paste, the measure of its flowability is controlled in the mixer by adjusting the binder content or percentage of coke fines. The lower baked part of the electrode is the final electrode product. Electrode Carbon Paste also known as Soderberg Electrode Paste made from mix of fractions of Calcined Petroleum Coke (CPC) or Electrically Calcined Anthracite Coal (ECA coal) mixed with Coal Tar Pitch as Binder and Anthracene Oil at a predetermined temperature. It is used as conductor in sub merged arc furnace under self Baking process while manufacturing different types of Ferro Alloys and Calcium Carbides. MANUFACTURING PROCESS Calcined Petroleum Coke (CPC)/ ECA Coal produced in the Calcinations plants are brought and subjected to crushing and screening to various fraction sizes as per formulations, the fractions as available are proportioned and mixed with the milled fractions. The desired quantity of fractional material with binder is weighed and transferred into Sigma Mixer. The Mixer is heated to about 1600 C and operated (mixing) for a constant time cycle also called “mixing cycle” to obtain the homogeneity and desired plasticity of the paste. On completion of the mix operation, the product is discharged and dumped on the mould box and cast into blocks for onward dispatches to our valued customers. QUALITY PARAMETERS Carbon Electrode Paste is one of the important factors which govern the quality of Soderberg Electrode; Fluctuations in the quality of electrode paste may lead to operational problems in smelting furnaces.
