These brakes are electromagnetically actuated with two friction surfaces on a single disc. The braking power is applied by means of compression springs. When electric current passes through the stator( brake coil), the armature plate is attractedto the statoragainst the spring force, thus releasing the rotor. When current is cut OFF,strong compression springs pushes the armature plate to its original postion, which clamps the rotor providing the braking torque.
