Tamping Paste
Tamping Paste or Ramming Paste is used in the lining of submerged arc furnace. First it is softened by heating and then applied over refractory lining of submerged arc furnace. Tamping Paste of superior quality is required for long life of the furnace lining. Manufacturing Process : The manufacturing process for Tamping Paste is same as for Carbon Electrode Paste. The only difference, being the fraction sizes of ECA/CPC, is different for Tamping Paste & binder pitch content is lower than Carbon Electrode Paste. Raw Petroleum Coke (RPC) received from the Refinery is sized and fed into a Kiln which may be rotary or Vertical shaft kiln. The coke gradually moves towards the lower end of the kiln and during its movement down the Kiln all moisture and volatile matters present in the RPC are driven off. It is a exothermic process with the burning of hydrocarbons present in the RPC providing the heat required for Calcination. The product received at the end of the process is a highly Electrically conductive Carbon called Calcined Petroleum Coke.

Carbon Electrode Paste is a self-baking electrode used in submerged Arc furnaces for delivering power to the charge mix. Electrode paste is added to the top of Electrode column in either cylindrical or briquette form. As the paste moves down the column the temperature increases which causes the paste to melt and subsequently form baked block of Electically conductive carbon. Electrode paste is essentially a mix of Electrically Calcined Anthracite (ECA) or Calcined Petroleum Coke (CPC) with Coal Tar Pitch.CPC received from our own plant or ECA received from overseas suppliers is screened to different fractions and stored in different hoppers. The various fractions are then weighed using electronic batching system and taken in a bin. The proportions of the fractions are fixed according to the desired properties of electrode paste. The total aggregate is then preheated in sigma type mixer upto 1800C and then liquid coal tar pitch is added at 2000C and mixed. Depending on desired plasticity of Electrode paste, quantity of liquid Coal Tar is added. Coal Tar pitch is used as a binder.

...moreCalcined Petroleum Coke
Calcined Petroleum Coke (CPC) is obtained by Calcining (Heating in presence of controlled Oxygen supply) Raw Petroleum Coke (RPC) at temperature as high as 1400oC. RPC is the end product of the Oil refining process and derived from the fractional distillation of Petroleum Crude in delayed Cokers. CPC is mainly used in the Aluminium extraction, Graphite Electrode manufacturing, steel melting, Titanium Dioxide and other Carbon consuming industries. Manufacturing Process : Raw Petroleum Coke (RPC) received from the Refinery is sized and fed into a Kiln which may be rotary or Vertical shaft kiln. The coke gradually moves towards the lower end of the kiln and during its movement down the Kiln all moisture and volatile matters present in the RPC are driven off.
