SUJAN derives its name from Sardar Bahadur Sujan Singh of Hadali whose ancestors served as generals and commanders in the Sikh armies in the 17th and 18th centuries. Sujan Singh was the first member of his clan to branch out from the martial tradition into commerce, perhaps due to the sudden death of his father, and Enterprises was thus born. The family diversified into a range of activities including trade, oil, cotton and real estate and most notably, construction and real estate development under the aegis of Messrs Sujan Singh Sobha Singh, the latter part being the name of his elder son, Sardar Bahadur Sir Sobha Singh. In turn, Sir Sobha Singh worked closely with Sir Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker to construct the city of New Delhi, which was proclaimed the capital of India in 1911.
