This feature enables PEM 300 fasteners to be installed into stainless steel sheets, employing the same self-clinching principle which has proved successful over the years in thousands of applications.

These nuts are used for the detection of location of bearings and other components onto a shaft or adapter sleeve. One of the other utility of these are escalating bearings on the tapered shaft seats and descending bearings from the withdrawal sleeves. Unintentional loosening of these locknuts are prevented by securing these nuts. The nuts are thus fitted with a locking device that engage a keyway in the shaft or a key slot in the adapter sleeve, or by a unique mechanism integrated in the nut that locks the nut. It is better used with an integrated locking system as it is cost effective, reducing the cost of the keyway in the shaft. This also facilitates quicker installation as no separate locking device is needed.

Lock - nuts are sometimes referred as shaft or withdrawal nuts depending on the use on which they are to be put in. They provide a simple means of axially locating bearings and other machine components on the shafts and also facilitate mounting and dismounting small bearing on withdrawal sleeves. The required bearing internal clearness on tapered sleeves is achieved by carefully tightening of lock nut. For tapered roller bearing, the positive clearance is achieved by full tightening of lock nut and releasing by ¼ pitch. The lock nuts are designated as ‘KM XX’ and for withdrawal nut it is ‘HM XX’
