Texmaco Rail & Engineering Ltd. (TEXMACO), is an ISO: 9001-2008, a premier multi-discipline, multi-unit engineering and Infrastructure Company, with 5 manufacturing units extending over 170 acres in the outskirts of Kolkata. The Company was formed after demerger into it of the Heavy Engineering and Steel Foundry Divisions of the parent company Texmaco Ltd., (founded in 1939 by the renowned industrialist, Late Dr. K.K.Birla). It is presently the flagship company of the Adventz Group, (headed by the Chairman Mr. Saroj Poddar), comprising renowned blue chip companies, such as, Zuari Agro, Paradip Phosphate etc.. The Group was launched with the idea of one virtual company with many real businesses, and is based on four fundamental principles - Collaboration, Sustainability, Inclusiveness and being Global.
The Company manufactures a diverse range of products viz. Railway Freight Cars, Hydro-mechanical Equipment & Industrial Structurals, Steel Castings, and Pressure Vessels, etc. Over the years, it entered into technical collaboration with renowned Multinationals of Japan, U.S.A, U.K, Germany, Australia, Austria, Holland, etc. for developing and expanding its product portfolio.
Texmaco is the leading and most reliable freight car maker over the past 7 (seven) decades. Its most recent creditable performance was in the months of August to November 2012, when the production averaged nearly 500 wagons a month. In fact, one out of every four Freight Cars on Indian Railways network is rolled out from TEXMACO Works. Its Freight Cars serve a host of core industries like Cement, Steel, Defence, Fertilizer, Oil, Alumina, Thermal Power Projects, Chemical Plants, etc. These include Custom-built Special Purpose Freight Cars for movement of large oversized consignments of individual weights upto 250 T. Besides, the company is moving fast into manufacture of Double Deck Auto Rake, in collaboration with an European Company. Further, the company has submitted final design & drawings to RDSO for Double Stack Container Rakes, to meet the emerging demand with the operation of Dedicated Freight Corridors.
Besides domestic market, TEXMACO has made significant thrust in overseas markets. Several Awards bear testimony to its successful achievements in National and International Projects financed by World Bank, ADB and other Multi-lateral Funding Agencies.
The Steel Foundry of the Company is the largest in the Country with a capacity upto 30000 Tonnes of quality Castings per year. It has a State-of-the-Art facility set up by the world renowned M/s. Kunkel Wagner, Germany. The Foundry has earned the distinction of Quality Assurance Certificate (M-1003) from AAR (Association of American Railroads), making it the only Foundry in India qualified to export railway castings to the North American Market. Recently, it has also been crowned with the “IIF Foundry of the year 2009” by The Institute of Indian Foundrymen.
Texmaco has entered into Joint Ventures with world renowned multi-national Groups:
Touax Texmaco Railcar Leasing Private Limited is another 50:50 joint venture between Texmaco and the French Group Touax Rail, a leading Lease Finance Company of Europe, having vast experience in the business of leasing out freight cars etc. The JV Company has an early bird advantage of the present policy of the Railways of permitting Leasing Companies to own and lease wagons to the Industry and other end users on operating lease basis, which was not permitted hitherto. It is exploring all business opportunities and has identified certain specific business schemes / segments under i. Container Train Operators (CTOs), ii. Liberalized Wagon Investment Scheme (LWIS), (iii) Automobile Freight Train Operators (AFTO) for movement of automobiles, and (iv) Special Freight Train Operators (SFTO).
Texmaco has also formed a JV with the world renowned Wabtec Corporation, USA on a 60:40 basis. The incorporation has been registered in June 2015.
The JV will bring to the Indian market products like Draft Gear, Bogie-mounted Brake System and Friction Products , for which there is a huge potential. The product portfolio will expand substantially as soon as the manufacturing facilities are set up, for which discussions are already in progress.
TEXMACO has diversified into the production of Locomotive Shell and other Components for Electric Locomotives, outsourced by the Indian Railways.
The company’s State-of-the-art Coach Shop at its Sodepur Works has been set up with the technical support of Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI), Kobe, Japan, where the manufacturing of ACEMU coaches is going on for Indian Railways.
TEXMACO is an outstanding name in the field of design, fabrication, supply, erection, and commissioning of Hydro-mechanical Equipment for mega Hydro-power projects. It is also well-known for fabrication of Heavy Steel Structures for Thermal Power Stations, Flyovers, Railway Bridges, Cranes and Equipment for steel plants, naval Ship Structures for Indian Navy etc.
The Company also manufactures various types of Process Equipment such as, Pressure Vessels, Heat Exchangers, Columns, Reactors, Bullets, Trailer-mounted Cryogenic Tanks, Horton Spheres etc. in diverse materials of construction.
The Company is also in the advanced stage of negotiation with Multi National Groups to enter into a Joint Venture for manufacturing of Electric Multi Unit (EMU) and Metro Coaches at the Company’s plant site near Kolkata.
TEXMACO has acquired Kalindee Rail Nirman (Engineers) Limited, a company which is renowned for doing EPC contracts for Railways and Metros. It specialises in track work, railway signalling, telecom and metro track work. Texmaco Rail is thus poised to be the end-to-end solution provider for Railways and Metros.
Further, the Company has acquired 55% shareholding in Bright Power Projects (India) Private Limited which has become a subsidiary of the Texmaco w.e.f. 4th January, 2016. Bright Power is an EPC company, incorporated on 10th January, 1994, specialising in over head electrification (OHE) solutions for the Railways. With Bright Power and its strong credentials in railway electrification field, Texmaco has strengthen its position further as a total rail solutions provider company and is well positioned to leverage on growth opportunities in Railways Infrastructure in coming years.
Texmaco Hi-tech Pvt. Ltd. (Erstwhile JV with UGL Rail Services Ltd., Australia) is another subsidiary of Texmaco, with State-of-the-Art manufacturing facility, was set up primarily to cater to the huge requirement of locomotive, wagon and coach components. It has developed its own customer base successfully with some global companies like GE Transportation, Alstom, Harsco, ZF, etc. It has also been successful in getting trial orders from Indian Railways for Coach Bogie Frames.
TEXMACO’s forte, however, is its team of dedicated professionals, a team which has grown with the Company and is closely identified with the corporate objectives. It has to its credit a singular record of industrial harmony stretching over several decades. A noteworthy initiative of the Company is in the creation of a ‘Centre of Excellence’ in collaboration with the premier University, BITS, Pilani, to promote academic study and research for industry-centric knowledge and skill up-gradation.
