These are used for measurement of total pressure in earth fills and embankments, at the interface of two different materials or measurement of stress in concrete. Also used for measurement of contact pressures on retaining walls, piles and tunnel linings.   These cells consist of circular stainless steel plates, welded together around their periphery and spaced apart by a narrow cavity filled with de-aired fluid and connected by a stainless steel tubing to a pressure transducer.
