Khukuri is referred to as the legendary close combat weapon of the Gurka regiments. In India, Khukuri retains its version as traditional accessory knives and the blade notch symbolizing the trident of Shiva, the war god. Made using high-carbon steel full-tang blade, khukuri's exotic hardwood handle and steel butt plate make it an ideal tool for the outdoorsman. The Gurkhas were known for their stealth and lack of fear in glorious fightings involving the deadly use of khukuri. The famous khukuri carried by Gurkha soldiers is a side-arm that complements the main fire-arm. The cutting action of the khukuri is an upward diagonal swipe with the neck being the main target. The blade is thick on the outside edge making the wide part heavy like an axe. The length varies from 16 to 17 inches and the blade being 12 to 13 inches. The haft of the khukuri may be made of wood, buffalo horn, bone or ivory. The traditional khukuri carried by modern day Gurkhas has become smaller in size. Its use has been confined to that of being worn as part of the traditional uniform.
