gypsum is calcium sulphate dihydrate (caso4.2h2o) deposited in sedimentary layers on the seabed. Under high pressure and temperature, gypsum turns into anhydrite (caso4). Gypsum / anhydrite are produced from open-cast mines or underground mines. Gypsum is normally only screened to remove ‘fines’ (mainly mudstones), then crushed and finely ground for various applications. Gypsum is an indispensable component of ordinary portland cement as it has a great influence on water consumption of standard consistency and strength simultaneously. During the cement manufacturing process, 4%-6% of gypsum (by weight) in crushed form is introduced during the final grinding process upon cooling of clinker. It plays an important role in controlling the rate of hardening or setting of cement. If not added, the cement will set immediately after mixing of water leaving no time for concrete placing. Over 60% of gypsum produced across the world is used in cement manufacturing. Other applications include the production of plaster, plasterboards, gypsum fiberboard and gypsum blocks. It can also be used as a soil conditioner and has various other specialized applications. An important property of gypsum is that it is naturally fire-resistant.

Initially, in its molten form, it is diverted to a granulator where it is quenched with water and rapidly cooled to form glassy, non-metallic granules which are silicates and aluminosilicates of calcium. These granules are dried to produce granulated blast furnace slag (gbfs) and then ground to a suitable fineness to produce ground granulated blast furnace slag (ggbfs). When used as a cementitious material in concrete, ggbfs enhances long-term performance and durability characteristics while reducing life-cycle and maintenance costs. Gbfs is ground to a controlled fineness through vertical roller mills with the latest technology and quality control systems to produce ggbfs. The grinding process takes account of mean particle size, grading (particle size distribution) and particle shape, thus giving quality-assured material which is consistent, predictable and suitable for varied applications.

AAC is a highly thermally insulating concrete-based material used for both internal and external construction. Besides AAC's insulating capability, one of its advantages in construction is its quick and easy installation, because the material can be routed, sanded, or cut to size on site using standard carbon steel power tools. AAC is well suited for urban areas with high rise buildings and those with high temperature variations. Due to its lower density, high rise buildings constructed using AAC require less steel and concrete for structural members. The requirement of mortar for laying of AAC blocks is reduced due to the lower number of joints. Similarly, the material required for rendering is also lower due to the dimensional accuracy of AAC. The increased thermal efficiency of AAC makes it suitable for use in areas with extreme temperatures, as it eliminates the need for separate materials for construction and insulation, leading to faster construction and cost savings. Even though regular cement mortar can be used, most of the buildings erected with AAC materials use thin bed mortar in thicknesses around � inch, depending on the national building codes. AAC materials can be coated with a stucco or plaster compound to guard against the elements, or covered with siding materials such as brick or vinyl.
