Attapulgite micronise is a hydrous magnesium aluminium silicate with rheological and gelling properties. Its three dimensional crystal structure gives it colloidal and adsorptive properties. Uses with bitumen: attapulgite micronise is used to make putty which is bitumen based joint sealing compound: formulated with ductile bitumen with a gelling agent, antioxidants, stabilizers and special additive. Putty made from attapulgite is capable of withstanding expansion, contraction and structural movement and is resistant to bacteriological attack and is therefore recommended for use in water retaining structures where biological activity occurs. Putty made from attapulgite is an ideal joint sealant for vertical and inclined types of water retaining structures, culverts, basement structures, sewage works, roofing and as a moulding putty to create appropriate profile around pipe joints prior to covering with protective wrap. Attapulgite 500 wp is also used in making a solvent based synthetic rubber, modified bituminous liquid compound with reinforcing filler, gelling and wetting agents, antioxidants and special additives for enhanced adhesion. When cured the compound forms a rubber like membrane that is able to withstand severe expansion and contraction movements as it is elastic and has the capability of bridging over stress cracks. Other uses: latex based architectural coatings; liquid animal feed; suspension fertilizers; paint & coatings; chemical suspension; asphalt cutback roof coatings; sealants and caulks; binders for foundry mold coatings; water based adhesives; plastisols; laminating adhesives; tape joint compound construction; water based adhesives; frpgrp applications etc.

Ashapura has sizeable deposits of Attapulgite in Bhavnagar district, Gujarat. Total proven reserves of Attapulgite are estimated to be in the region of around 8000,000 tonnes. The deposits consist of needle-shaped bundles of Attapulgite mixed with dolomite. The company has established a plant in Bhavnagar city, which incorporates a number of extruders and tow hammer mills and a production capacity of up to 60,000 tonnes per annum. Attapulgite is primarily used for Petliter,Oil Well Drilling applications, as also for Liquid Fertilizers and floor absorbents. Currently, the company is involved in the production of Attapulgite Granules for use in domestic and industrial absorbent.
