Thrust Bearings, like other bearings, permit rotation between parts, but are designed to support a predominantly high axial load while doing this (parallel to the shaft). Generally, they are composed of two washers (raceways) and the ball/roller elements which are typically caged. Spherical Roller Bearings are designed to work in applications where severe misalignment exists whether from mounting or shaft deflection and with relatively heavy radial loads and some axial loads in either direction. They are also extremely resistant to shock loads and their self-aligning feature allows full capacity loading despite shaft deflection. They are very similar in purpose to Self-Aligning Double Row Ball Bearings, except the Spherical Roller Bearings are designed to be more robust to carry heavier loads but at lower maximum speeds. These bearings have barrel-shaped rollers between the inner ring, which has two raceways, and the outer ring which has one spherical raceway. They are self-aligning because the center of curvature of the outer ring raceway surface coincides with the bearings axis. Standard Spherical Roller Bearings are produced with straight bores; however, tapered bores are available upon request and may be mounted directly on tapered shafts. Pressed steel and machined brass cages are typically used.

Four-row bearings by BBC are designed to provide maximum capacity in minimum space, combining the inherent high-load, radial/thrust capacity and direct/indirect mounting variables of tapered roller bearings. These bearings are primarily used on the roll necks of rolling mill equipment. We produce an extensive range of four row tapered roller bearings which covers not only the conventional design with the intermediate rings between the inner and outer rings but also the new designs with the modified rings which integrate the intermediate rings. We also have the capability to manufacture with integral radial shaft seals at both sides.

These specially designed Taper Roller bearings from BBC Bearings are built to take large axial forces and sustain large radial forces. In these separable roller bearings mounted in pairs with rolling elements and raceways tapered, the four basic components are the cone, cup, tapered rollers and cage. The cone, cage and tapered rollers together form the inner ring assembly, which is separable from the outer ring. This range of BBC Bearings is so designed that the extensions of raceway and roller, converge at a point on the axis of rotation. The tapered configuration facilitates the rolling motion of roller on raceway, and generates a 'seating force', pushing the roller against the large rib of the inner ring. This prevents the rollers from skewing off-apex, thereby always keeping them positively aligned and in contact with the inner ring rib. These bearings can not only carry a combination of radial and thrust loads, the long-line contact between rollers and races enables them to carry high loads. Depending on the magnitude of the load to be carried, the contact angle of the bearings may be narrow or wide. Taper Roller Bearings from BBC Bearings are being increasingly used in Levelers.
