Colloid mill reduces the particle size of a solid present in different liquid forms or solid forms. It is mainly reduces the solids which are present in the suspensions or emulsions or the reduction in the suspensions droplet size. It is almost used for the all types of materials for the reduction. DESCRIPTION The colloidal mill is used in the reduction of the particles or solid materials which are present in the suspensions or emulsion. The shearing is the mechanism in the colloidal mill. By the stator and the rotor present in the cylindrical vessel of the colloidal mill the shearing take place and the reduction of the particles takes place. PHARMACEUTICAL APPLICATIONS The main use of a colloid mill is the dispersion of solid particles within a liquid. It is used to reduce the particle size in suspension in a liquid or to reduce the droplet size of a liquid suspended in another liquid. By applying high levels of hydraulic shear to the process liquid the reduction is done. It is frequently used to increase the stability of suspensions and emulsions. It is used for the formation of the efficient emulsification, homogenization, dispersion and mixing during the course of cutting, milling and shocking with high frequency. Operation Product is fed to the operating area of rotor, having a speed of 3000 rpm by specially designed feed device. The product is processed by high shear, pressures & friction between the stator & rotor, & is also subjected to intensive vibration which exerts their force on it by means of pressing & releasing actions. due to the slightly deviating tapering of the milling surfaces of stator & rotor, the angular gap becomes narrower towards the discharge section. It works on the rotor stator principle. The complete assembly is provided with serrations for better mixing. Better mixing can also be obtained by adjusting the gap between the rotor and the stator by the handle provided. The product is subjected to a high shear action in the rotor stator assembly due to which the particle reduction takes place. The material is then pushed out through the outlet for further process or for recirculation. Am-colloid mill is driven by a special vertical type highspeed motor, which along with a 5S-housing provides working area of the mill. Circular shaped stator assembly having two different tooth stages, the conical rotor that is directly coupled, and shape of the rotor and stator permits to axially adjust the grinding gap to an accuracy of 0.10 mm. The opening or dosing of this gap is calibrated on a scale. One rotation of the adjusting ring corresponds to a grinding gap of 0.5 mm.   Operation : In Am-colloid mill the product is subjected to high shearing cuffing, and rubbing forces between two toothed surfaces. The product, while passing down the hopper, inibally gets seized in the preliminary braking drum where it is broken and thrown into the first stator tooth stage. Due to conical arrangement and the centrifugal effect of the rotor rotating at a speed of 2800 RPM, the material is forced into second tooth stage. The tooth design of the grinding set causes powerful vibrations that subject the particle with high degree of forces. In turn particle reaches the lowest grinding stage. The ground material continuously leaves the mill through the outlet pipe, if required, it can be recirculated.
