Double Mechanical Seals are suitable where absolute leak-proof sealing is necessary due to the toxic/hazardous/ violatile nature of the fluid. They are combination of two conventional seals installed back to back inside the stuffing box. A compatible clean liquid is circulated between the two seals at a higher pressure then the pumpage product. The inner seal prevents the circulated liquid to enter the system and the other seal prevents if from leaking it to atmosphere. The circulation of the liquid reduces the heat generated on the seal faces. These seals are available in different combinations suiting to service conditions.This is a combinations of two unbalanced multi spring seals mounted back to back.
