RUBBER MOLDING CAPABILITIES COMPRESSION MOLDING The most popular molding process, compression molding uses pressure and heat to mold the rubber into the shape required. Compression molding is a good manufacturing choice for large parts, parts that do not require tight tolerances, and low production quantities. It requires inexpensive tooling, but is a labor-intensive process with longer loading and process times than other molding methods. Compression molding press capabilities for our compression line range from 12” x 12” on the low end, up to and including 85” x 108” on the high end, with various press sizes in between. TRANSFER MOLDING Rubber transfer molding uses a process similar to compression molding, but has a transfer system on the top of the mold that feeds the rubber into multiple mold cavities when the press is closed. This allows for more efficient processing – tool and material loading times are reduced. It is used for large parts, parts that do not require tight tolerances, and higher production runs than compression molding. Minor Rubber’s transfer molding press capabilities for our compression line range from 12” x 12” on the low end, up to and including 85” x 108” on the high end, with various press sizes in between. INJECTION MOLDING With injection molding, rubber is pre-heated before being injected into the mold. Since it is pre-heated, the rubber flows more readily into the mold, allowing for higher cure temperatures, shortening the curing cycle. Injection molding presses provide tight clamping, which results in little or no flash. Parts manufactured using injection molding may not require additional finishing. The process is used for high production runs and parts that require tighter tolerances. ROUND BELT PULLEYS
Round belt pulleys are mechanical devices which transmit rotational motion around an axle. They are used to lift loads or to apply/transmit power. The round belt pulley accommodates a belt, cable, or rope in a groove around the circumference of the device to guide the drive element. Round belt pulleys are very efficient (approx. 95%), they can produce a mechanical advantage, and they are recognized as one of the six simple machines. ROUND BELT PULLEY OPERATION POWER TRANSMISSION In many incarnations, a pulley transmission greatly resembles a roller chain drive. Most transmission applications utilize a belt to transmit energy between pulleys. A pulley transmission offers several advantages over roller chains drives. Not only can pulleys account for axial misalignment, but axles can be perpendicular or reside at any other angle. It’s also common to employ a pulley transmission in a crossover drive to reverse the direction of the receiving pulley. ROUND BELT PULLEY SPECIFICATIONS Pulley geometry is represented in metric and avoirdupois units, but there is no other structural or design difference between the types. Other considerations for integrating pulleys include: Belt dimensions: The size range of belt/line diameters that the pulley can contain between its grooves, as well as the appropriate length of the belt when accounting for the center distance of the pulleys, the pulley diameters, and the stretch of the belt. Manufacturer Durabelt has developed a belt calculator to assist in these considerations. Pulley diameter: Based on the application, axle distances, HP transmitted, and mechanical advantage, procuring round belt pulleys is an arduous decision. A pulley-sizing calculator has been established to determine the optimal diameters for pulleys based on the aforementioned factors. Pitch diameter: Pitch or datum diameter for a pulley is the diameter of the line of action. Typically it is at or near the center of the circular pulley groove. Roller Thrust Bearing
A cylindrical roller thrust bearing is a particular type of roller bearing. Like other roller bearings, they permit rotation between parts, but they are designed to support a high axial load while doing this (parallel to the shaft). Higher speed applications require oil lubrication. Generally, they are composed of two washers (raceways) and the cylindrical roller elements which are typically caged. As opposed to roller thrust bearings, ball thrust bearings can generally operate at higher speeds but at lower loads. Some important factors when selecting a cylindrical roller thrust bearings from AST: Thrust bearings must be kept in matched sets. The bore (d dimensions) of one washer (smaller) in the set will conform to the specifications. The bore (d dimension) of the mating washer will be ~ .007” larger because it is a clearance hole for the shaft. AST’s cylindrical roller thrust bearings currently start with bore sizes from 45 mm and go up to 360 mm with outer diameters from 64 mm to 440 mm.
