The deterioration of fuel is almost inevitable. Contaminants are introduced into the fuel system through mixing, transferring, and storage. These contaminants spread through the fuel system and quickly plug the fuel filter. A coating of slime will develop over the entire surface of the media. Contaminants arrive in your fuel in two forms- precipitates and particulates. Precipitates are generally heavier than fuel, and tend to settle to the bottom of tanks. Particulates are black, tar-like contaminants. There is n o known chemical treatment for the removal of these contaminants.Potentially the most damaging of all contaminants, water, destroys the lubricative properties of your fuel. With lost lubricity, the fuel can scour pumps and even blow out injector tips. Hence fuel filters protect your engine from the harmful effects of water and contaminants in fuel. They will also help increase engine performance and life.

Balston high flow rate compressed gas filters offer exceptionally high efficiency coalescing filtration of compressed gas at high flow rates. Specifically designed to remove suspended liquids and dirt from pipeline natural gas, the housings are ASME Code Stamped up to 1440 psig. Equipped with Balston Microfibre® Grade DXE Disposable Filter Cartridges, the filters are rated at 93% retention of 0.01 micron and essentially 100% retention of 1 micron liquid droplets and particles.

Gas filters are used to separate dust and other particles such as oils, waxes, tar etc which are all heavy ends in Low and High pressure service lines. These used to protect the system and the other safety equipment pipeline. the These Gas Filters have pressure loss across their end connections. There are two models of filters:1) Model F-1 which is 1 /2″ BSPPF X 1 /2″ BSPPF2) Model F-2 which is 1″ BSPPF X 1′ BSPboth the models are provided with pressure gauges. As the filter is used and its element gets contaminated with heavy ends, the outlet pressure starts dropping with respect to its inlet pressure. This can be visually read from the two pressure gauges provided on the filter. The element requires changing when there is a drop of 50% or more between its inlet and outlet readings. The element can be inspected, and replaced without any disconnection from the pipeline.

Filter capacity and filter life, an important theme with financial implications for professional filling stations where cost control is vital. The life of a filter is strongly influenced by the running temperature of the compressor and ambient temperature. Example: LW 450 E at +20°C outlet temperature has a filter life of approx.33 hrs, at +35°C this time is reduced to just 10 hours!. If the air is cooled down to +3°C after the final compression stage before it enters the final separator, the life of the filter cartridge can be extended up to 6 times, in extreme tropical conditions 10 times!  The L&W refrigeration dryers, named Air Coolers, can pay for themselves within 1 season in saved filter cartridge costs. To monitor the exact state of the filter and register when the cartridge needs changing, we recommend the L&W Puracon moisture controller. For some industrial applications, the air cooler can provide suitable drying without the need for filters. The coolers are available as independent units with water separators, automatic condensation drain with timer and silencer, or as the economical.
