Borosilicate glass is a type of glass with silica and boron trioxide as the main glass-forming constituents. Borosilicate glasses are known for having very low coefficients of thermal expansion (~3 ãã¯â¿â½ 10ãâ¢ã¯â¿â½ã¯â¿â½6 kãâ¢ã¯â¿â½ã¯â¿â½1 at 20 ããâ°c), making them resistant to thermal shock, more so than any other common glass. Such glass is less subject to thermal stress and is commonly used under steam boilers in various industries . Glasses containing 15ãâ¢ã¯â¿â½ã¯â¿â½25% b2o3, 65ãâ¢ã¯â¿â½ã¯â¿â½70% sio2, and smaller amounts of alkalis and al2o3 as additional components, have low softening points and low thermal expansion. Sealability to metals in the expansion range of tungsten and molybdenum and high electrical insulation are their most important features. The increased b2o3 content reduces the chemical resistance; in this respect, high-borate borosilicate glasses differ widely from non-alkaline-earth and alkaline-earth borosilicate glasses

'Bishop Adamant Gauge Glass Tubing' in a wide range of diameters and wall thicknesses in Borosilicate material which is highly resistant to water, neutral and acidic solutions, concentrated acids, and organic solutions. For smaller diameters (up to 38mm or 1.12") the composition has been developed specifically to cater for the requirements of gauge glasses used in high pressure steam boilers, for both temperature and chemical resistance. Red striped glass tubes are available for use in low pressure level gauges’ Larger diameters are used as sight flow indicators in pipelines, chemical process plants, and other process equipment. Glass rods in borosilicate and soda glass rods and tubing are available for special applications. Specifications: Diameters from 6mm to 300mm End Finish: Ground, Fused, Polished, or as Cut Lengths: Generally 1500mm but lengths of 3000mm (120”) in Specific Diameters Maximum Temperature: Generally 450° C or 220° C for Steam Application Thermal Shock: 160° C Refractive Index: 1.473 Coefficient of Expansion: 3.2 x 10-6 Deg K
