Pair/triad/quad: two/three/four cores are uniformly twisted together to form a pair/triad/quad with maximum lay length 80 mm/as per requirement of customer. The lay shall be so chosen as to minimize cross talk in the cable. Individual shielding : if required, individual shielding may be of poly aluminum [thin layer of aluminum foil bonded to polyester film] tape with annealed tinned copper drain wire. It prevents the shorting of adjacent shield and minimizes the cross talk and ground loops. A tinned copper drain wire is installed to provide continuous contact with the shield and allow to connection to ground. Tinning the drain wire reduces galvanic corrosion between drain and shield. Laying of pairs/triad/quad. : pair/triad/quad are laid up with suitable lay. The outer most layers are right hand lay and successive layers are laid up with opposite lay. Then, a polyster tape is provided to bind up laid up pair/triad/quad. Overall shielding : if required, overall shielding may be of annealed tinned copper braiding / poly aluminum [thin layer of aluminum foil bonded to polyester film] tape with annealed tinned copper drain wire. Braiding atc shield has high tensile strength and provides better coverage in flexing application. They are easier to terminate. This provides effective shielding; cross talk and noise are kept to an absolute minimum.  Inner sheath : the laid up pair/triad/quad after shielding are provided with an inner sheath, which may be either extruded inner sheath or wrap with pvc tape. Armouring : it is applied over inner sheath. It may consist of galvanized round steel wires or galvanized flat steel strips  Outer sheath : it is applied over armouring in case of armoured cable or over inner sheath in case of unarmoured cable. The color of sheath is black or grey. The sheath material may be general purpose/hr / frls / lszh pvc compound as per requirement of specification. LT Aerial Bunched cables, also known as LT AB Cables, are distinct from bare conductor overhead distribution. They are good for distribution of electricity to residential, commercial and industrial units. These cables have overcome limitations of PVC insulated cables such as thermal degradation, poor moisture resistance and thermoplastic nature. LT AB cables have higher current rating, higher short circuit rating approximately 1.2 times that of PVC. LT AB Cables have lower cost of laying because of comparatively smaller diameter of cable and higher weight. Installation charges are also low as diameter of the cable is comparatively lesser with smaller bending radius, requiring less space. For longer cable length voltage drop, one size lower cables can be used as compared to PVC insulated cable. LT AB CABLE - FEATURES AB cables are highly reliable and insulation has been developed to withstand extreme cold and intense sunlight. Disturbance and faults occur five to ten times more often in open wires lines than in AB cable lines. There is no risk in touching the live cable and the insulation reduces the number of short circuits and over voltage faults in overhead cables during thunderstorms. Few hardware accessories are needed which are different for different size of cables. Streets can be lit only at little extra conductor for lighting. Overall lines cost is reduced. Maintenance is very convenient. Very difficult to tap the AB cables, thus reducing theft which leads to lower distribution losess. Since, the tension from the current carrying conductor is totally removed by introduction of messenger wire, the operating temperature of the conductor is 90 c as against 75 c thereby allowing AB cable to carry current equivalent to that of bare conductor of the same size.

The basic material is low density polyethylene. Polyethylene is a thermoplastic material consisting of long chain of hydrocarbon molecules. At elevated temperatures these molecules tend to move relative to one another so that the material becomes increasingly deformable and will eventually melt at the temperature around 110oC. By means of process similar to the vulcanization of rubber the polyethylene molecules can be cross-linked. The process of cross-linking or vulcanization consists of producing chemical bonds at interval between the long molecular chain to give a "ladder" effect which prevents slippage between molecules. As a result of cross-linking the material becomes heat resistant and does not soften at higher temperatures. Further it has better resistance to stress cracking and good resistance to ageing in hot air. With the change of structure there is no adverse effect on electrical properties.
