We have specially designed this new type - of Precision Melting Point-cum-Boiling Point Apparatus which can be used for finding out the melting point & boiling point of the substances with high degree of accuracy ambient to 320°C. The characteristic feature of the instrument is a small U-shaped glass container made from corning glass, its two tubes which are open at top have a lateral connection. The 'Teflon' plug also carries the electric heating coil.The U-Tube is filled with inner liquid (Silicon Oil) so that good circulation is ensured and that both the capillaries and thermometer are well immersed. An electrically driven stirrer dips into the rear portion of the U-shaped tube. The front tube is fitted with a 'Teflon' plug which serves as : Entry for a thermometer Entry for three melting point capillary tubes of 1 mm dia. Entry for Boiling Point Capillary. Entry for a base plate on which rests the thermometer and the 3 capillary tubes, which ensures that the test material is on the same level as the bulb of the thermometer. The U-Tube and motor are clamped to a support rod. The based on the apparatus is made from steel and incorporates the following parts : A variable transformer 0 to 260 volts to the mains supply which allows stepless regulation of heating current. On the left of Rotary knob is main 'ON' and 'OFF' switch and a pilot lamp and on the right are two switches one for heating coil with illumination and the other for stirrer. The base also supports an adjustable magnifying glass which permits excellent observation of the test material in the capillary tubes, which in turn, are illuminated by two-6 volt lamps. The magnifier is easily adjustable for the most favourable observation and the two light bulbs are screened to prevent glare Below the U-Tube there are holes on a tube which can be connected to a compressor, in order to allow rapid cooling of the heating medium, readiness for the next test The rate of temperature rise can be exactly adjusted within wide limits. The heat transfer to heater material and to the thermometer is intense and constant. The test sample and the thermometer are kept exactly at the same temperature. The instrument is very useful for determination of the so called 'Momentaneous' melting point, because the temperature can be maintained constant at any level. The Precision Melting Point Apparatus can also be used as a Boiling Point Apparatus for determination of boiling point of liquids by using Boiling Point capillary supplied with equipment. The equipment is suitable for 230 Volts single phase. 50 c/s Hz only.

The apparatus incorporates the latest type of MICROPROCESSOR BASED circuitry and is very simple to operate. The apparatus consists of a cylindrical Silicon Oil bath with heater. The sample is filled in a capillary and suspended through Teflon cover of the Silicon Oil bath. Similarly a Boiling Point tube with sample liquid can also be suspended through Teflon cover to determine Boiling Point of a liquid sample. The temperature of bath is maintained uniform with built-in magnetic stirrer. Tips of the sample filled capillary can be observed through magnifying lens on illuminated background of silicon oil bath. Date-wise selection for printing is possible. An audio signal draws attention of operator for close observation of Melting Point towards the final reading. Melting Point can be clearly observed through Magnifying Lens and after reaching the actual Melting Point, the STOP key is to be pressed. At this stage Temperature will stop rising and displayed Temperature indicates completion of Melting Pont. If through oversight one fails to press ‘STOP’ key, the heating will stop automatically, after the Temperature reaches above set Temperature with TEST OVER message. The range of the Melting Point can also be determined by pressing RECORD TEMP. When RECORD TEMP, key is pressed start of Melting Range is indicated on the screen. Four such temperature values can be stored in the memory. On pressing the STOP key after complete melting of the sample , the heating is stopped. Start and end temperature of the Melting Range is then displayed. The instrument is also having facility for testing unknown sample. When UNKNOWN SAAMPLE option is selected the temperature will start rising at nominal rate so that is easy to observe the temperature at which the sample melts. Validation Program for the Standard Samples like Vanillin, Benzoic Acid and Caffeine is incorporated. This apparatus is used for the determination of single or mixed melting points of most organic substances in powder form. These substances , which are opaque at ambient temperature become transparent on melting. The melting point is noted on a mercury-in glass thermometer just when the substance under test starts melting.The apparatus consists of an aluminum block in which three small holes for inserting thin glass capillaries , and one larger hole to accommodate a mercury in- glass thermometer are provided. The aluminum block is heated from two sides by clamped-on nichrome wire strip heaters which are electrically insulated. The block assembly is housed in an aluminum casting housing which is finished in elegant paint. The thin glass capillaries which are inserted into the three holes in the aluminum block are illuminated by an incandescent lamp and are seen magnified by the use of a built-in double convex lens. This eliminates the strain of viewing the thin glass capillaries in which the powders under test is / are placed.The rate of rise of temperature of the aluminum block is controlled by a rotary rheostat built into the apparatus. The glass capillaries are in thermal contact with the aluminum block and therefore heat transfer is efficient. When the substance starts melting, the temperature as indicated by the inserted thermometer is noted , which is the melting point temperature of the particular substance. A boost heater to heat the block rapidly is also provided. Put of booster heater when temperature will reach 25ºc to 30ºc below the required temperature (i.e. Rough melting point of the substance) . Slow heating will help to give accurate melting point. As an optional accessory , a cooling plug to bring down the temperature can be supplied, which is to be inserted in the hole where thermometer bulb was kept . Cooling takes place by circulation of water in the cooling plug which has an inlet outlet.
