Tungsten carbide dies have an economical edge over steel wire and other large-size wire drawing applications as these are extremely cost effective. This flexibility in cost overrides other features like die wear resistance and wire surface finish. Typically tungsten carbide dies are used for manufacturing wire or rod, generally in highly abrasive and high carbon material areas where PCD dies are not cost effective.
