Oilseed Meals are produced by crushing of oilseeds; to get value added protein meal and vegetable oils. Oilseed meals are predominantly used as animal feed for their protein content. Soybean meal is one of the largest meal proteins along with others like Rapeseed meal, Cottonseed meal, sunflower seed meal etc.

Oil seeds are rich in protein and in addition they contain a high level of fat. Hence they are not only good sources of protein but are concentrated source of energy. They do not contain an appreciable amount of carbohydrate but contain high level of B-vitamins. Groundnuts are particularly rich in thiamine and nicotinic acid. Oil seeds produced in the country are mostly used for oil extraction. These oils are mainly used for human consumption, in food processing and as cooking oils.

Grains are small, hard, dry seeds (with or without attached hulls or fruit layers) harvested for human or animal food. Agronomists also call the plants producing such seeds 'grain crops'. Main types of commercial grain crops are cereals such as Wheat and Rye, and legumes such as Beans and Soybeans. Wheat and Rice are the main Grains produced and traded worldwide as these form a majority or human diets.
