The rated stroke of each type of thrustor/Thruster can be changed, retaining the same attractive force, by means of sleeves fitted on the rods (inside the body) (this arrangement is possible with models from Suni/ ST 535 and above) In cranes / hoisting machinery, brakes are intended for controlling the speed of load, lowering or for holding the suspended load at rest "Suni" Make Mill duty Thrustor/Thruster Brakes are suitable for 400/440 Volts, 3 Phase A.C.50 C/S supply for a wide range of drum sizes, from 100mm to 600 mm dia. Higher sizes can also be supplied against specific requirements. The brake is applied by the tension of the compressed springs mounted vertically between the thrustor /Thruster and brake lever. The thrustor/Thruster rods are connected with the brake by means of an angle lever. As the piston travels upwards the angle lever turns, pushes the brake rod and compresses the brake spring. Simultaneously, the brake lever on the other side of the wheel (Brake Drum) is retracted. The brake lever at the thrustor/Thruster begins to move when the first lever reaches the stop on the brake base member The thrustor/Thruster and the brake are so adjusted as to reserve about 1/3 of the stroke for compensation of the wear of the brake linings.

It is used for stopping the closing motor after closing or opening, regardless of the height of the grab and starting the holding motor after closing, for transition to the hoisting action as well as for stopping the holding & closing motors at the hoisting & lowest grab position. Construction : The switch contains six cam operated switch elements which are used as auxiliary circuit limit switches (See switching sequence diagram). The dimension drawing shows that the switch has two shafts which must be driven by the holding and closing winches. The contracts of limit switches are 40 Amps rated at 500 V. A. C. Mode of operation : The switches N5, N6 are limit switches for the highest and lowest grab positions. The 'Grab closed' and 'Grab open' limit positions are monitored by the switches N1 & N4, whereas N2 & N3 initiate the switching operations for single lever grab control. Installation : The switch is best arranged to one side of the winch space between the drums where it should be easily accessible. It can be mounted either in a horizontal or a vertical position. However, the former is preferred since the switching equipment and gearing can be reached more easily when the cover has been removed. Auxiliary shafts connected to the winch of the grab hoisting gear are best used for driving the switch. Since these brakes are in normally closed position, the release of the Brake shoes is affected by energizing the Electro Magnetic coil, which overcomes the spring force and the shoes are moved clear off the drum by lever/arm linkage system so that the drum is free to rotate without any friction. When the power in given to the Electro Magnetic coil the coil gets energized and in turn pulls the plunger down. The plunger in turn operates the arm of the brakes and the brake opens. The design of the brake is such that as the lining keeps wearing out due to normal operation of the brake, adjusts itself on its own to achieve the rated toque. When specified, brake drum or drum coupling both pin bush type and flexible geared type can be supplied along with the brakes.

If the Load is greater than what the Thrustor Thruster can lift, the Piston will remain at the bottom of the Cylinder and the impeller will rotate harmlessly in Oil. In the absence of Load the Piston stops at the end of the stroke and the Impeller rotates in the Oil as mentioned above. Basically Suni� Brand Electro Hydraulic Thrustor Thruster comprises of a Centrifugal Pump Impeller spinning in Oil there by developing a pressure head. Since there is no outlet, delivery port as in case of a Pump, the pressure developed is impressed on the Piston which is directly coupled to the Load to be lifted. Thus a part of the pressure head is expanded in forming a kinetic head required to lift the Load. At the end of the Lift, either partial or full i e., when the Thrustor,Thruster stalls, it is the full pressure head which is available. Thus the maximum thrust in the stalled position is always higher than the rated thrust. The Centrifugal Pump Impeller is driven by an Electric Motor the capacity of which depends upon the capacity of the Thrustor,Thruster .For example in case of a 18 kg Thrustor,Thruster the Motor is of 0.1 HP and in case of 34 kg it is 0.17 HP. The major components of the Suni Brand Electro Hydraulic Thrustor,Thruster are, a Cast Iron cylinder filled with Transformer Oil, with a Aluminum Piston moving freely in it and a Drive Shaft down the center, through the Piston , to the cylinder. The Impeller draws Oil from above the Piston forcing the Oil beneath the Piston to give it an upward movement in the cylinder with pressure. The pressure is maintained whether the Piston is in motion or has come to a halt at the end of the intermediate position of the upward stroke. During transportation the Oil is drained out from the Thrustor hence at the time of commissioning the system required quantity of Oil needs to be filled up in the Thrustor. It is advisable to use only fresh Grade transformer Oil. The quantity of Transformer Oil required to be filled up in the Thrustor,Thruster depends upon the capacity of the Thrustor. Recommended grade of Transformer Oil is BS 148 or equivalent.
