Slack Adjuster
The Manual Brake or Slack Adjuster Assembly is used on commercial vehicles having Air Brakes with 'S' cam shaft. The purpose of this product is to transmit the braking torque to the 'S' cam and facilitate adjustment of the clearance between brake lining and the brake drum, which is primarily caused due to the wearing of brake lining. The slack adjuster assembly is mounted on the 'S' cam shaft and one end is connected to the push rod of the brake chamber. When the brake pedal is pressed, the air is let into the brake chamber and thrusts the push rod out. This in turn moves the slack adjuster assembly. As slack adjuster assembly is mounted on the 'S' cam shaft, the shaft rotates and forces the brake shoes away from the other and presses against the brake drum. Thus, the brake is applied.

The vehicle is safer when all the brakes are better adjusted, all the time. That's the advantage that S-ABAs provide. Automatic Brake Adjuster is one of the most critical items in any air brake system. It is used on commercial vehicles having Air Brakes with 'S' cam shaft. The basic function of the brake adjuster is to transmit the braking torque to the 'S' cam and facilitate adjustment of the clearance between brake lining and the brake drum, which is primarily caused due to the wearing of brake lining. The automatic brake adjuster is mounted on the 'S' cam shaft and one end is connected to the push rod of the brake chamber. When the brake pedal is pressed, the air is let into the brake chamber and thrusts the push rod out. This in turn moves the adjuster. Since, it is mounted on the 'S' cam shaft, the shaft rotates and forces the brake shoes away from the other and presses against the brake drum. Thus, the brake is applied. When the gap between the brake drum and the brake lining is increased due to brake lining wear; the automatic adjuster senses and adjusts the gap automatically. ABAs adjust the brakes while the vehicle is being used, thereby helping to maintain optimum vehicle braking capability at any given instant of time.

Therefore, the basic function of this product is to convert linear motion into the rotary motion of S cam. When the gap between the brake drum and the brake lining is increased due to brake lining wear; the slack adjuster assembly hexagon (adjusting nut) is rotated manually so as to rotate the ‘S’ cam and adjust the gap between the brake drum and lining.

The efficiency of a compressed air system depends on compressed air quality. Water, Oil and dirt contaminants in the air brake system cause excessive wear to components. The Haldex Consep offers the fleet operator, a viable solution to the contamination of the air brake systems through oil, dirt, and water carryover from the compressor, which inevitably causes the valves and brake system component to fail. The simple design of ConSep allows for easy installation The simple design of ConSep allows for easy installation by either OEM or fleets looking too retrofit a solution to their current vehicles. Whilst some vehicles now provide for the installation of an air drier to alleviate some of the problems associated with poor air quality, (namely water condensation and oil being thrown by wearing compressors), these driers require the additional ongoing cost of replacing desiccant cartridges. Consep removes up to 90% of any water content, along with eliminating oil and dirt components, and does not require any cartridge replacement. Advantages Consep offers up to 80% - 90% removal of Oil, Water and other contaminates from the compressed air. A low cost product in comparison with the air driers, both in terms of installation as well as operating costs Air drier installation also has the additional cost of purge tank and plumbing. No recurring cost of consumables in a ConSep. An air drier requires a change of desiccant cartridge at least once a year. Consep uses considerably less air (50 cc per vehicle brake application) as compared to an air drier, which consumes 30-40 liters of free air every purge cycle. This leads to excessive wear and tear of major and costly components of a compressed air system.
