ESCACID-40 is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd), healing of erosive esophagitis and zollinger-ellison syndrome. It produces faster pain relief, ulcer healing and greater efficacy in oesophageal reflux disease. Since it is having a lower affinity for cytochrome p-450 than other proton pump inhibitors, there is less chance for drug interactions with other drugs including carbamazepine, cisapride, cyclosporine, digoxin, warfarin, e.t.c. And it has been an added advantage for its use in patients. ESCACID-40 in longer use or higher doses may cause bone fractures and these can be prevented by the intake of calcium and vitamin d supplements.
