The heat exchanger performance can be sized to best meet the required temperature application. Fundamentally, the air-to-air heat exchanger conditions the temperature of engine bleed air or boosted output flow from a compressor prior to delivery of the pressurized air flow to the downstream air separation module (ASM). The pressurized air flow is cooled by means of ram air or by way of an electric cooling fan using a prescribed thermal control algorithm.
