Salius pharma launches a new combination medication STROBACT-OZ (Ofloxacin 50mg and Ornidazole 125 mg Suspension) used to treat Anti-bacterial and Anti-Protozoal infections. STROBACT-OZ (Ofloxacin 50mg and Ornidazole 125 mg Suspension) is the combination of Ofloxacin 50mg and Ornidazole 125 mg per 5 ml in a flavoured syrup base where ofloxacin acts as an Anti-Bacterial antibiotic and Ornidazole acts as an Anti-Protozoal agent. STROBACT-OZ suspension is used for the treatment of various bacterial infections such as surgical wound infections, Respiratory tract infections like lung abscess, Diarrhoeas of Protozoal orgin, e.t.c. Ofloxacin belongs to the fluoroquinolone group of antibiotics and they act by inhibiting the DNA gyrase enzyme which is necessary for the multiplication and repair of bacterial DNA. Ornidazole is a nitro-imidazole group of anti-protozoal agent which attacks the microbial DNA and inhibit its further synthesis and causing degradation of the existing DNA. STROBACT-OZ Suspension is completely absorbed with 100% bioavailability. The common side effects such as headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain may occur. It is contraindicated in patients with cirrhosis of liver, psychiatric illness, symptoms of epilepsy, e.t.c. Drug interactions may happen with theophylline, glibenclamide, methotrexate, e.t.c. Recent studies have proved that concomitant administration of an antibacterial antibiotic with an anti-protozoal agent showed better recovery than that of the monotherapy of ofloxacin and ornidazole. Recommended dose: one tsp (5 ml) of strobact-oz suspension administered twice daily every 12 hours for patients with normal renal function. Given to children of 3-4 years of age.
