During the filtration cycle the sludge is initially pumped into the chambers at a high rate. This rate is reduced as the chambers are filled and the pressure builds. The cloths retain the solids, allowing water to pass through as filtrate. Once the pressure in the press reaches a set point and the filtrate is reduced to a trickle the dewatering cycle is complete. The next stage of the process is to empty the press by opening the plate chambers and allowing the dewatered cake biscuits to drop out. This entire operation can be a manual, semi automated or fully automated process. Once the press is empty the plates are returned to the closed position, ready for further batches. The manual filter press unit is fitted with a hand pump, and is ideal for small sludge volumes. The semi-automatic filter press range, with a hydraulic pump for plate pack closing. The fully automatic machine includes automatic plate shifting, plate vibration and drip trays. A number of options are available to assist ease of operation for all models, including the Air-Track plate shifter, membrane plates for increased filtration pressures.

The operation of conventional filter presses have always been messy and labor intensive. With ever increasing labor cost there arose a demand for atomizing several filter press operations. N.M. Patel Engg. was first to develop & offer automatic filter presses with following features. Auto Shaking mechanism The filter press with precisely engineered auto shaking mechanism will shake the group of plates at one time maintaining the predetermined gap between the two plates via chain or rope. The auto shaking mechanism is run by electric or hydro-motor shaking the plates with suitable revolutions adjusted by means of PLC, which co-relates the filtration sequence without operator’s attention. AUTO PLATE SHIFTER FILTER PRESSThis highly advanced arrangement, provides fully automated closing and opening. When the filter is ready for cake dumping, the double acting cylinder retracts, pulling with it the movable head or follower. As soon as the followers is fully retracted, the shuttle shifter takes over, picking up the first plate from the head end of the unit, moving it across the opening or cleaning space to expose the cake and stacking it against the follower. The shifter then automatically reverses, returns for the next plate, transports and stacks it against the first plate and so on with time cycle set in PLC. Until all of the plates have been successively shifted and chambers dumped. An over-ride is provided so that the shifter can be stopped at any time and its motion resumed when the operator desired.
