In-situ Testing Stages The stages are aimed at the study of material damaging by generating thermo-mechanical stresses. They allow to perform tensile, compression, bending and biaxial tests while doing observation in a scanning electron microscope, under an optical microscope, with synchrotron radiation or under a diffraction goniometer. The crystalline orientation, the failure of particles as well as the initiation and propagation of cracks can be observed during loading. EBSD Compatibility These stages will enable you to perform EBSD analysis in the most favorable conditions possible, achieving very small working and sample-to-screen distances. The set of clamps can easily be mounted either in the 0° position for direct observation or the 70° tilt position for EBSD. Unlike conventional systems, the force applied is centered on the medium plan of the tested sample, thus ensuring that the specimen is uniaxially loaded. No bending effects will occur and falsify the analysis. 1. PROXIMA: Proxima is setting new standards in ergonomics and optical performance for mechanical testing in Scanning Electron Microscopes, with its unbeatable performances during EBSD Analysis.Unlike the traditional testing devices with its two columns located on each side of the testing sample, the new PROXIMA relocates this mechanism on the axis of the sample. This opens the area around the testing sample, resulting in considerable technical benefis. There’s more room for the EBSD detector, allowing a sample-to-screen distance down to 12mm. 2. AQUILA: AQUILA is a thermo-mechanical tensile stage, able to perform EBSD analysis under scanning electron microscopes. Its unique design allows to work at short working-distance (WD), while leaving enough room to approach alternatively and closely two EBSD detectors (angular spaced of 20°): one for ultra high resolution observation and one for ultra fast acquisition. Moreover with its wide variety of clamps, Aquila is incredibly versatile: tensile tests on flt bone sample, compression tests on cylindrical sample, 3 or 4 point bending tests on bar sample, and even low cycle fatigue can be achieved, all under EBSD analysis. 3. SIRIUS: Biaxial testing is a lot more representative of real-world stress states than the conventional tests. Therefore the importance of this kind of testing has an increasing role in material characterization and modeling. However, today’s biaxial testing devices occupy a lot of space and in situ testing in constrained environments is unthinkable.Over the last few years, our engineers were able to develop a technology which allows to down-size considerably these machines. Confined spaces, as scanning electron microscopes, are now in our reach. Local analysis of phases, crystallographic orientation, deformation and stresses can be evaluated during an in situ test. This new technology is able to measure both force and displacement in the X and Y axis. Both axis can be controlled separately and simultaneously, which allows to simulate complex loading (tensile, compression and low-cycle fatigue). While specimens are generally cruciform, this machine can develop forces up to 2 kN. 4. POLARIS: Polaris is a novel and innovative miniaturized mechanical testing device, destined to perform stamping and bending experiments. The originality of this machine comes to its ability to fit inside scanning electron microscopes (SEM). This opens a new range of applications capable of analyzing in situ the microstructure of materials directly while they are being deformed. Not only will POLARIS allow you to to understand the core behavior of materials in an unprecedented way, but it will also enable you to tackle some critical industrial, economic and environmental issues:• Reducing the weight of structures by using thinner and lighter developed materials with similar mechanical properties.• Cost and delay reduction by decreasing the time between the development and manufacturing phase.• Environmental protection by consuming less energy, producing less waste materials and improving service life. Prototyping MicroMecha provides innovative solutions for mechanical testing devices and microscopy applications. The design engineering team, specialized in new product development, will work closely with you on your project throughout all the steps. To best serve your individual needs, they use state of the art technology in software, manufacturing and rapid prototyping.
