Gugal, guggul, gugul, gugglu is obtained from the fragrant resin of the Mukul myrrh tree. The guggul plant may be found from northern Africa to central Asia, but is most common in northern India. Most common use of Guggal in India today is in the form of dhoop in poojas. In the medical field it is used for arthritis, lowering high cholesterol, “hardening of the arteries” (atherosclerosis), acne and other skin diseases, and weight loss.
