Kala Namak Paddy Seeds Kalnamak Paddy Seeds (it is fragrant, rich in iron-zinc and sugar-free)  The Indian Agricultural Research Institute has successfully tested two new hybrid varieties of Kala Namak rice (Pusa Narendra Kala Namak 1638 and Pusa Narendra Kala Namak 1652). These varieties, cultivated in Uttar Pradesh, yield twice as much as the traditional variety. The height of the new varieties ranges between 95-100 cm compared to the 140 cm of the traditional version. Agricultural experts and farmers assert that this strain retains the authentic quality of traditional Kala Namak rice while also doubling the yield. With a production rate of four tonnes per hectare or 1.6 tons per Acre, this strain maintains the original quality standards of Kala Namak rice. Varieties: Pusa Narendra Kala Namak 1638 Pusa Narendra Kala Namak 1652 These two varieties, particularly Pusa Narendra Kala Namak 1638, have been remarkably successful. Kala Namak Kiran While another variety, Kala Namak Kiran, is also popular, it lacks the authenticity and fragrance found in the Pusa Narendra Kala Namak 1638 variety. Therefore, farmers are advised to cultivate Pusa Narendra Kala Namak 1638 for optimal results. About Kala Namak Rice: It's a traditional variety known for its black husk and strong aroma. This non-basmati rice has medium slender grains. It's considered a gift to the people of Shravasti by Lord Buddha when he visited the region after attaining enlightenment. For farmers, this unique kind of rice might be quite advantageous. Its cost is really higher than that of Basmati rice. This variety has been cultivated since the ancient Buddhist era (600 BCE). Popular in the Himalayan foothills of Nepal (Kapilvastu) and Eastern Uttar Pradesh, where it's known as fragrant black pearls. 11 districts in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh have received GI tags. Kala Namak rice was awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) tag by the Indian government in 2012. Health Benefits of Kala Namak Rice: Rich in micronutrients like iron and zinc. It's believed to prevent diseases caused by nutrient deficiencies. Regular consumption is associated with Alzheimer's prevention. Contains 11% protein, almost double that of regular rice varieties. It has a low glycemic index (49% to 52%), making it suitable for sugar-free and diabetic diets. It also contains antioxidants like anthocyanins, which are beneficial in preventing heart diseases.
