The trap body is normally filled up with condensate to maintain a seal water around the inverted bucket. Live steam enters the bucket, floats it, to close the valve. Steam leaks through a small hole in the top of bucket, and opens the valve to discharge condensate. Some inverted bucket traps are fitted with an auxiliary bimetallic air vent.

The Inverted Bucket Steam Trap is simply an automatic valve that opens for condensate, air and Co2 and closes for steam and it efficiently perform that basic function for long periods of time making it more economical. Inverted bucket steam trap operates on the difference in density between steam and water. Steam entering the inverted submerged bucket causes the bucket to float which when lifted closes the discharge value. Condensate entering the trap changes the bucket to a weight that sinks and opens the valve to discharge the condensate. But unlike other mechanical traps, air and carbon dioxide are vented continuously at steam temperature through a small hole provided in the stainless steel bucket. The heat of Inverted bucket Steam Trap is its leverage system that multiplies the force provided by the bucket to open the valve against pressure. There are no fixed pivots to create friction. It is designed to open the discharge for maximum capacity. Wearing point are reinforced for longer life. Valve and Seat are made of heat treated chrome steel. The use of different leverage ratio for each orifice size makes it possible to open the maximum size orifice at any given pressure. Each size of Inverted Bucket Steam Trap is available with different sizes of pressure changes Assemblies at different pressure intervals so that the capacity of any one size is maintained at its optimum level. Max. Operating Conditions: Max. Allowable pressure: 17 Bar Max. Allowable pressure: 232 degree Sizes: 15 NB, 20 NB, 25 NB, 40 NB, 50 NB End Connection: Screwed to BSP, BSPT Flanged to ANSI, Class-150/300 Materials: Body: ASTM A48 CI, 30 Internals: Stainless steel-304 Valve & Seat: Hardened chrome steel Options: Bucket Vent scrubber wire Check valve

Steam used for secondary heating like Coils, vessels, heat exchangers etc, generate a lot of condensate post heat transfer. This large quantity condensate can handle by the Inverted Bucket Trap. This condensate has a substantial heat component with cost tagged to it. Also this is treated and pure water and can be used as Feed water for the Boiler, saving the cost of heating, Water Bill and Treatment chemicals. Therefore it makes sense to recycle reuse this condensate. This function is also done by the Inverted Bucket Trap, which works on the principle of Buoyancy, [densities difference of Water and Steam].The rising in condensate level fills and envelopes the Bucket causing it to sink which open the mechanically linked valve and discharges the condensate, and reverse, when the level of condensate drops Steam enters the bucket, causes the flotation of the Bucket which close the valve and stops condensate discharge & traps the steam.
