The oldest, most widely used test for determining workability is Slump Test Apparatus. This test is used to determine the workability of fresh concrete, which would normally be undertaken at the point of delivery to ensure the concrete, is of adequate consistency for placement. The test is applicable to concrete of medium workability.General Descriptions & Specifications :The device is a hollow cone-shaped mould. The mold is filled in three layers of each volume. Each layer is rodded with a 16mm steel rod 25 times. The mould is then lifted away and the change in the height of the concrete is measured against the mould. The slump test is a measure of the resistance of concrete to flow under it own weight. The apparatus comprise of a slump cone with handles made of mild steel sheet, a chrome plated steel tamping rod of 16 mm diameter X 600 mm long, rounded off at one end, with a scale marked on it and a steel base plate with a carrying handle.

It is used for the determination of the consistency of freshly mixed concrete, where the maximum size of the aggregate does not exceed 38mm. Salient Features Specifications : The Apparatus consists of one slump cone with handles and foot pieces. The slump cone has internal dimensions 20cm. dia at base 10cm. top dia. and 30cm height. Foot pieces can be fixed to the clamps on the base plate. The base plate has lifting handle for easy transportation. How To Work CTM?  5. Start applying the load at the specified pace rate, which could be maintained by adjusting the slow fast knob. 6. If the pace rate is on higher side the indicator displays red colour and the pace rate is on the lower side the indicator will display yellow colour. 7. If the pace rate is exactly equal to set rate then the indicator will display green colour. 8. As soon as sample fails, release the pressure slowly by opening valve. 9. The digital display will be holding the maximum load reading at which sample has failed. Note down the pattern of failure and calculate the compressive strength in N/mm2 or kg/cm2. 1. Keep the specimen to be tested centrally on the clean lower platen so that small clearance is left between the upper platen and the top of the specimen under test. 2. Close the pressure release valve 3. Make the digital display to read “Zero” by adjusting the zero knob. 4. Put the display unit on “Peak Hold” mode to hold the maximum load reading.
