Surge Arrester is specifically designed to protect utility, agricultural and industrial installations and equipment in the 120-650 Volt range from over-voltages caused by lightning discharges. It is available in both single and three phase application. The arrester complies with ANSI standard C62.11-1987. It is not a substitute for lightning rods, or other devices intended to protect people and property against a direct or nearby lightning stroke.

PV systems are set up outdoors and are prone to lightning damage. Lightning and surge protections are essential to their efficient operation. After the external lightning protection, the most crucial work is to protect the inverter. SPDs are needed at the DC input end and AC output end of the Inverter. They are also needed at the two ends of long distance signal cable.

Surge Counter will automatically recordthe number of lightning and switching surge discharges of Station class surge arresters on a five digit cyclometer dial. Impulse discharges through the arrester must also pass through the surge counter as it is insulated from, and mounted at the base of the arrester, and connected between the arrester ground terminal and the station ground. The counter will register impulse discharges through the arrester of an amplitude of 40 amperes or greater.
