The HAZOP study is a procedure to identify hazards in a chemical process facility. HAZOP study is carried out with the help of  P&I diagram  and  certain guide words. It  also requires  use of   large investment in time and efforts.

Hazardous areas are classified in zones based upon the frequency of appearance and the duration of an explosive gas atmosphere as follows Zone 0- An area in which an explosive atmosphere is present continuously or for long period or frequently. Zone1-An area in which an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation occasionally. Zone 2- An area in which an explosive atmosphere is not likely to occur in normal operation but, if it does  occur, will persist for a short period only.
