And more productivity is ensured by countless enhancements in the design, together with maintenance and service intervals of unsurpassed length layer joints. The contact pressure is generated by means of special-purpose pneumatic cylinders, which allow almost hysteresis-free contact andor compensating motion. By means of the two opposed cylinders, the contact pressure can be programmed within a range of 0 to 1000 n at will. Should the application concerned call for particularly sensitive contact pressure, the servomotor-driven contact pressure module can be employed. The pressure roller is made of a special type of alloy which is extremely resistant to wear and heat. In addition, when compared to conventional materials, there is considerably less adhesion of weld spatter.
