O-rings and seals used in hydraulic cylinder applications are placed under some of the most demanding environments. Besides the prevention of fluid escaping from the cylinder, cylinder seals are also designed to perform under conditions of high pressure and temperature as well as been able to withstand transverse forces during operation. Hydraulic cylinders make use of rod seals and piston seals for the dual purpose of fluid containment within the cylinder and the prevention of hydraulic fluid from moving across the head of the cylinder, respectively. The extension and retraction of the cylinder is enabled as pressure builds up on one side of the cylinder. Inside of the hydraulic cylinder, the wear rings guide the movement of the piston and piston rod while withstanding transverse forces during operation. The contact between metal surfaces is prevented. Wipers perform the function of removing dirt and foreign matter from piston rod.
