This is a Vernier Theodolite incorporating the famous Stanley solid 'U'or ‘V’ frame single casting design, where the support for the horizontal axis is cast in one piece. The instrument therefore features a vernier reading system for the horizontal and vertical circles instead of an optical micrometer system.
