We offer design solutions for vertical thrust and guide bearing assembly configurations for applications such as vertical turbine pumps, vertical generators and vertical motors and also specific applications such as vertical coal crushing machineries, vertical heavy duty rolling mills etc. These bearings can be either vertical thrust alone or combination of both thrust and radial/guide bearings. The thrust bearings are tilting pad type and the radial guide bearings can be either plain sleeve or tilting pad type. The thrust and the radial pads are centre pivoted tilting pad type and allow for bidirectional rotation. The bearings can be either self-contained with water or oil cooled type or can be externally lubricated type.   Lubrication type The VB bearings are designed for two types of cooling. Self contained water cooling or circulating oil cooling through an external lubrication system. Water cooling is provided using our standard Cupro-Nickel wire wound cooling coils. On specific requirements cooling coils can be made of titanium and stainless steel.   Temperature Measurement Bearing assemblies can be supplied with RTD’s for accurate measurement of the thrust pad, journal pad & oil bath temperatures.

Tilting pad thrust bearings, as the name implies, have variable geometry wherein the bearing surface is able to tilt perpendicular to the plane in which the sliding surface moves. This allows for higher load carrying capacity than fixed geometry bearings.

Tilting pad journal bearings, as the name implies, have variable geometry wherein the bearing surface is able to tilt perpendicular to the plane in which the sliding surface moves. This eliminates the cross-coupling almost completely. Therefore, tilting pad journal bearings are heavily used in rotordynamically critical applications. Most often these are machines that operate at speeds above the critical speeds of the rotor.

Tilting-pad bearings deliver many advantages including: Improved dynamic performance of the rotor-bearing system and drastic reduction of instability caused by lubricating oil Bearing adaptability to shaft movements as a result of the ability of the shoe to tilt Uniformly distributed oil flow from equidistant radial feed holes Increased stability due to greater damping Lower spare parts costs and faster delivery since only the pads need to be changed In turbo machinery operating at high speeds, plain cylindrical bearings are susceptible to oil film instability. In this condition, also known as oil whirl, the shaft orbits within the clearance of the bearing. The tilting pad journal bearing uses tilting pads to provide geometries that change with variations in load or speed. This bearing offers the best stability at all conditions.
