Torque Motor Operated Cable Reeling Drum suitable for handling lengths of cables in excess of those which can be handled by a conventional spring operated types. The units are totally enclosed and weatherproof. The torque motors are capable of operating continuously in the stalled position or of being rotated against normal phase rotation. In other words acting like a spring of infinite length. The motors have an integrally mounted electro-magnetic brake which is D.C. operated through a built in rectifier. Normal motor supply is 400440 volts 3 phase, 50 Hz . The drive to the reel is by means of chains and sprockets, with single or double reduction accordingly to requirements. They can handle length up to 150 Mtrs multicore cables can be used. The access to the weatherproof sliprings and brush gear is by means of an easily removable cover situated at the non driving end of the reel. These units are specially designed for automatically handling trailing cables supplying power to the long travel motion on overhead and gantry cranes. Motors used are squirrel cage as well as slipring construction. Selection of motor is depends upon torque requirement. Output torque of motor can be reduced in the slipring motor by increasing the rotor resistance.

The power unit drives the reel through an irreversible worm and wheel transmission which is totally enclosed and lubricated for life. The reduction ratio of the gearbox is fixed and rotational speed of the output spindle is selected by fitting a motor of appropriate speed. Since the motor mounts are designed to accept universally available stock motors, variation in reeling speed are easily obtained. In all cases, rotational speed of output spindle is arranged to be in excess of that required for cable reeling which ensures correct cable retrieval under all operating conditions. The energy dissipating capability of the torque controller unit, is greater than the energy permissible through the gearbox thus ensuring adequate safety margins are supplied to torque controller unit.

Slipring Cable reeling drum employs two drums, between these two drums the trailing cable is coiled without any intermediate sliprings or open contacs. Cable Drums of this type are particularly suitable for measuring cords, Multicore cable ( Control Cables ) and also for use in Ex-proof Plants. There are no open contacts between the two cable ends, this means that for room where an Ex-certificate is normally required, no special certificate is required for these drums.The cable reeling drum consists of the main drum body, and two auxiliary drums a rotating roller arm with deflector sheave and counter weight coils the cable there is also the driving unit. The drive is through springs.

Turnover Anchors are employed in centre feed installation to allow the cable to be paid out to either side of the mid-travel position.In most cases a pit is made to house the terminations joining the flexible reeling cable to fixed wiring and this is a convenient place to fix the anchor with top of the funnel at ground level. The reeling cable will then lie on the ground.
