Coir ply board panels can be made using coir as reinforcing material with or without plantation timber (veneers like rubber, bamboo, jute, glass) in between as a secondary reinforcement and then infused with polymeric matrix material like phenol, polyester, epoxy, etc., and then processed under controlled temperature and pressure. Coir needle felt coir needled felts are non-woven fabric made out of 100% coir fiber. The fabric is composed of coir fiber randomly needle punched to the desired degree of compaction. The needled felts have excellent moisture absorption and retention characteristics and form an ideal medium for plant growth. The fiber is mechanically bonded or interlocked to form a continuous length of sheet. No bonding material is used in the manufacture process. It can be manufactured in thickness ranging from 10 mm to 20 mm with a density varying from 500 to 1500 gsq.m. Coir needled felt is used as semi-permeable membrane to retain the coir pith and to give volume to the ready-made coir eco lawn. It helps in creating a microclimate, which enhances plant development. In the construction of embankment, coir needled felts acts as separator, filter, and filter reinforcement and facilitates drainage. Coco peat is the 'coir fiber pith' or 'coir dust' produced as a bi-product during the extraction of coir fiber from husk. Coco peat is a multi-purpose soil conditioner and surface mulchrooting medium. It is consistent and uniform in texture. It is a completely homogenous material composed of millions of capillary micro-sponges, that absorb and hold up to eight times it's own weight in water. The natural ph of 5.7 to 6.5, plus an unusually high caption exchange capacity - and easy available water assures that coir will hold and release nutrients in solution over extended periods without additional watering. The coir pith is cleaned and sieved before it is compressed . For easy transportation and usage it is compressed into a 650 gm briquette or a 5 kg block.
