Spherical Graphite Rolls
These are one of the most versatile materials now-a-days. In this free carbon takes the shape of spheroids or nodules, thereby eliminating the notch effect of flake graphite and improving upon the mechanical properties of the cast iron. These can be controlled from fine pearilite to bainite or even to martensite. S.G. Pearlitic These are basically a combination of free carbide and hard matrix. These characteristics give the roll good hardness penetration. Application Suitable for small to medium sections billets, Rolling flat and wire rod. S.G. Accicular These rolls are stronger and more wear resistant than S.G. Pearlitic rolls and are capable of a higher hardness, especially in depth. These properties are produced by increasing the alloy content mainly nickel, molybdenum and chromium modifying the matrix structure from pearlitic to an accicular form. Application Wire rod, Bar, Coil and medium section mills

alloy indefinite chill rolls
Alloy Indefinite Chill rolls consist of cast iron with fine interdendritic graphite evenly dispersed throughout the barrel of the roll. The size, shape and distribution of the graphite together with carbide content is controlled by the chilling effect and the alloy content. The addition of alloys such as manganese, nickel, chromium and molybdenum changes the matrix structure from pearlitic, bainite, to martensitic. Presence of these alloys produces rolls with restricted hardness dropped along the cross sections. Application It can be used in both roughing and finishing stands for bar and sections, and for roughing, intermediate and finished stands of wire rod mills.

Alloy definite chill rolls are double poured to maintain the desired level of toughness and thermal properties in the journals and barrel axis. The increased hardness is obtained by alloy additions mainly nickel. Chromium and molybdenum which modify the matrix structure to produce harder acicular phase. The core material can be either flake or nodular iron according to the requirement. The flake core display better thermal properties while the nodular iron achieves greater mechanical strength. Application These rolls are used in finishing stands of Bar mills and strip mills.

These rolls are hypo-eutectoid steel rolls alloyed with Chromium and Molybdenum. The heat treatment ot these rolls involves normal double annealing followed by tempering cycle which improves toughness and thermal shock resistance The microstructure is primarily pearlitic with broken cementite. These types of Rolls offer mechanical strength of higher degree with good weldability. Application These rolls are ideally made for Blooming mills and Roughing Stands for Light and Heavy Section Mills.

These are High Carbon, Alloy Steel Rolls which are given special multi-stage heat-treatment in order to develop the combination of hardness, toughness and wear resistance. The structure produced consists of well broken up and dispersed carbides in matrix of bainite and pearlite. The high carbide content and tough, hard matrix make these rolls suitable for section rolling. Application Small, Medium and Heavy Section Mills, Plate, Strip and Tube Mills.
