At many areas in Industry, valves are insulated by using insulating wool and cladding the same with aluminium sheet. During maintenance, this has to be dismantled which is time & material consuming. To avoid this, Urja has introduced Removable and Re-usable Valve Jackets. Valve Jackets are made by inserting Insulating material (generally wool) between two layers of fabric and stitching the whole unit with high temperature threads. Generally strings are provided for easy fitting and removal. Thickness of insulation will depend on the surface temperature of the valve. Stitching Thread
Stitching of filter bag is of prime importance. A strong and appropriate thread will never cause the bag to break or tear during its operation. A broken bag will result in improper filtration and cause an unexpected shut down. A small factor could lead to huge problems for the plant manager. Urja manufactures the correct thread for fiberglass filter bags. Several strands of E-glass yarns are plied and twisted for extra strength and thereafter coated with PTFE under controlled conditions. The coating of PTFE will protect the thread from chemical damages when the bag is subjected to flue gases and also facilitate sewing operations. Urja’s product code PTZ 7513 has been performing and exceeding expectations in the Indian market since last 30 years.

PTFE is a material of remarkable properties; non-stick, friction-free, self-lubricating, non-wetting, non-flammable, non-brittle, non-toxic, resistant to atmospheric conditions, resistant to fungus growth and resistant to all chemicals (except molten alkali metals and fluorine at elevated temperatures and pressures). Its electrical properties are equally outstanding. All properties are maintained over a wide working temperature range of -200oC to +350oC. Fiber-Glass too is a material of remarkable properties. Fabrics made from continuous filament yarn exhibit superior properties in terms of high tensile strength, low elongation, high temperature resistance, electric and sound insulation etc. Back in 1980 Unnati, having received technical support from DuPont, was one of the first companies in India to develop a matrix of the two materials – PTFE + Fiberglass i.e. PTFE coated Glass Cloth. Although not the first to develop we are now by far, the largest manufacturer. Various varieties are made on our towers which are the most sophisticated in the country. Should the end application demand colourful fabrics – we have them. Controlled manufacturing processes and rigid inspection procedures give the right quality of the material that is capable of resolving a wide range of problems. Conductive grades of fabrics are also our specialty where the static & charge needs to be handled carefully. Requirements to cover Antennas at high altitudes have been successfully matched with PTFE coated fiber glass fabrics used as Radomes. Special grades have been developed which allows micro-waves to pass through. They protect the Antennas from snow, dust, rain, moisture, bird nest etc. Urja has manufactured over 200 radomes with many exceeding diameters of 3 meters. One side adhesive tapes
The entire packaging industry across India is aware and associated with our range of UNITO Tapes which are used for heat sealing applications. PTFE coated Glass Cloth is coated on one side with high temperature resistant pressure sensitive silicone adhesive. To ensure proper bonding between the surface of the fabric and the adhesive, the fabrics is ‘etched’ with the latest technology. PTFE COATED TAPES stick well to the heating element, allowing the heat to transfer and fuse the plastic without the plastic sticking to the heating element ensuring a permanent seal. Properties of the adhesive make this fabric versatile for most end applications. This fabric withstands temperatures up to 280oC and serves as an excellent anti-stick surface where the requirements are stringent. OSA (One side Adhesive) tapes are available in various sizes. As described by Fluid Sealing Association-USA, “Non-MetallicFabric Expansion Joints are flexible connectors designed to provide stress relief in ducting systems by absorbing movements caused by thermal changes. They also act as vibration isolators, shock absorbers and in some instances to make up for minor misalignment of adjoining ducting or equipment.” Fabric Expansion Joints are typically designed for ducts where pressure is know, not more than 3 psi (2000 mm wc) and temperature up to 1000oC. However, for higher temperatures, duct itself needs to be internally insulated.

Since early 70’s Fiberglass Fabrics have found an interesting application for filtration and uniform distribution of molten aluminium. Oxides are generated when molten aluminium comes in contact with oxygen in air. Chemical reactions occur at high temperatures particularly during melting, be it primary melting, foundry casting or recycling. Oxides must be removed before the metal is cast and this is the stage where fiberglass fabrics and articles made there from are used to give better casting results. The simplest form of application is directly as a cut piece of filter fabric. Evolved shapes stitched from glass fabrics like Combo Bags, Channel Bags, Spout Socks, Funnels, and Launder Socks are also used. These articles help to reduce turbulence, filter oxides as well as improve temperature distribution throughout the ingot. These fabrics are treated with resinous chemicals to stabilize the weave. Molten metal is filtered through this mesh. Number of yarns used will determine the strength of the fabric during filtration. This will also control the amount of flow of liquid aluminium. Smoke free fabrics are also available as a thermal treatment is imparted on the fabric. Urja is one of the largest manufacturers of glass fabrics suitable for filtration of molten aluminium and is well recognized by over 250 aluminium companies in over 15 countries. Fiberglass filter fabrics are woven in either plain or leno weaves. Plain weave is used where fine filtration is required and Leno weave fabrics are used where mesh size required is more open. Fabric filters commonly known as bag-houses comprise an array of long narrow bags that are suspended in large enclosures. Several bags typically in the diameter of 120mm to 400mm and length of 2mtr to 10mtr are arranged vertically in this enclosure. These bags are used to filter dust particles from dusty gasses. Dust laden gas enters the baghouse and pass through the fabric bags that act as filters. The gas passes upwards/downwards through the bag and leaves behind a cake of dust outside/inside the bag. Common types of Bag-houses are Mechanical Shaker, Reverse Air, Pulse Jet and the new Hybrid bag-houses. Filter Bags are woven or non-woven in nature. Urja is in the field of manufacturing only woven fabrics from Fiberglass. The count of yarn and weave pattern can be altered to determine the pore size for filtration. Fiberglass is strong, durable, chemically resistant and non-hygroscopic in nature. Long tubular bags stitched from Fiberglass Fabrics are used for hot flue gas filtration. Special finishes or coatings are imparted on theses fabrics to ensure adequate filtration. A commonly used mixture of graphite, silicone and PTFE has been used since many years. Urja offers specific fabrics for demanding applications and chemical attacks.

Cable protection sleeves
Cable Protection Sleeves are used to protect cables and hoses from high heat, molten metal splashes, occasional flames in nearby areas. These sleeves are made from Heat Resisting fabrics. The sleeves are also made to suit particular size of cable or hose that are already installed at customer’s site. The sleeves are generally made from Silicon Rubber Coated Glass Fabrics. For higher temperatures, High Silica Fabrics and Ceramic Fabrics are used.
