Phoenix Contact is setting new standards in safety technology. As one of the first safety products available on the market, PSR safety relay modules for process technology are now certified according to SIL 3/IEC 61508. They are also approved in acc. with EN 50156-1 for continuous operation for Safety Level 3.Conventional safety relay modules often have a very high inrush current, which control systems detect as short circuits. PSR-ESP safety relays provide optimum switch on behavior and have two separate isolated redundant form A contacts and one form B contact with a width of 22.5 mm (0.886 in.), which can switch up to 250 V AC/6 A. They are used to safely electrically isolate the field application from the control system or to adjust the voltage or power. The international standard IEC 61508 applies to electrical and electronic applications, in particular in process technology, such as chemical processing or process engineering and mechanical engineering. Like safety control systems or other control systems, compact safety relays are also an integral part of the safety chain.A new module with safe, slow-release contacts was incorporated in the PSR safety relay product family. Over a narrow 45 mm, the articles provide three enabling current paths and one signaling current path without delayed dropout for category 4 in acc. with EN 954-1. Furthermore, two slow-release enabling current paths – adjustable up to 300 seconds – are available. Single or two-channel control is possible. After the safety inputs have been enabled, the module starts automatically or manually.A connected start button is monitored to check that it functions correctly. To protect them against manipulation, the switches accessible from the top can be covered with the enclosed decal after startup. To monitor emergency stop circuits and protective door circuits without time functions, the PSR safety relay product family provides up to eight enabling paths and one signaling current path each. Modules for process engineering in acc. with IEC 61 508 SIL 3, two-hand control modules, check the parity (< 0.5 s) of the two inputs for applications in acc. with EN 574 Type III C. In the case of controlling, disabling protective devices, safety category 4 is attained. By using the corresponding extension modules, up to five enabling paths can be safely connected. All products of the family include pluggable screw connecting or spring-cage connecting terminal blocks as standard.
